Case Histories

Case Histories (2004) is a detective novel by British author Kate Atkinson and is set in Cambridge, England. It introduces Jackson Brodie, a former police inspector and now private investigator. The plot revolves around three seemingly unconnected family tragedies – the disappearance of a three-year-old girl from a garden; the murder of a husband by his wife with an axe; and the apparently motiveless murder of a solicitor's daughter. Atkinson has since published three additional novels featuring Brodie: One Good Turn (2006), When Will There Be Good News? (2008) and Started Early, Took My Dog (2010).

Case Histories (TV series)

Case Histories is a British drama television series based on the Jackson Brodie detective novels by Kate Atkinson. It stars Jason Isaacs (who had also narrated the abridged audiobook adaptation) as Jackson Brodie.

The series is both set and filmed in Edinburgh. The first series premiered in June 2011 on BBC1 and in October 2011 on PBS. A second series aired in 2013.

Series 1 (2011)

The series aired as three 2-part episodes, part one on Sunday and part two the following day, on BBC One at 9pm. On PBS, the series was shown in three two-hour episodes.

Series 2 (2013)

In October 2011, two more two-hour feature-length episodes were approved. In September 2012, the BBC reported that three 90-minute stories were planned for the second series, the first being adapted from Atkinson’s novel Started Early, Took My Dog, and that they would air on BBC One in 2013. The second and third episodes of series 2 are original works. Filming for the second series was on-going in Edinburgh as of mid-October 2012. The series aired from Sunday 19 May 2013 at 8.30pm on BBC One.
