Carlos Martinez (soccer)

Carlos Martinez (born January 21, 1992 in San Pedro, California) is an American soccer player currently playing for Sacramento Republic in USL Pro.

Career

Martinez began his career with FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt before transferring to FC Energie Cottbus. He signed his first professional contract with USL Pro club Sacramento Republic in March, 2014.

Carlos Alberto Martínez Escobar (August 11, 1965 – January 24, 2006) was a Venezuelan corner infielder in Major League Baseball who played for the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians and California Angels in all of parts of seven seasons spanning 1988–1995. Listed at 6' 5" (1.98 m), 175 lb. (79 k), he batted and threw right handed.

Biography

Martínez was born in La Guaira, the capital city of Vargas state, and played his entire career in the Venezuelan Winter League for his home city team Tiburones de La Guaira.

Martínez, affectionately nicknamed ″Café″, was signed by the New York Yankees as a free agent in 1983. During the 1986 midseason, he was sent by New York to the White Sox in the same trade that brought Ron Kittle to the Yankees. Finally, Martínez made his major league debut with Chicago in 1988.

Despite his impressive frame, Martínez never was able to fulfill the potential that he showed in the Minor leagues. His most productive season came in 1989 with the White Sox, when he posted career-highs in average (.300), at-bats (350), hits (105), runs (44) and doubles (22), and also was named to the Topps All-Star Rookie Team.

Oz (TV series)

Oz is an American television drama series created by Tom Fontana, who also wrote or co-wrote all of the series' 56 episodes. It was the first one-hour dramatic television series to be produced by the premium cable network HBO.Oz premiered on July 12, 1997 and ran for six seasons; the series finale aired February 23, 2003.

Overview

"Oz" is the nickname for the Oswald State Correctional Facility, formerly Oswald State Penitentiary, a fictional level 4 maximum-security state prison, apparently in New York (given the New York state flag and motto seen in the background when public officials are shown speaking publicly, references to "upstate", a term commonly used in New York, and the format of the prisoner ID numbers). The prison is most likely named after New York Commissioner of Correctional Services Russell George Oswald, who was the head of New York's penal system at the time of Attica Prison riot. The character Tim McManus refers to Attica as his hometown and the riot as his original impetus for his wanting to set up Emerald City.
