Canon PowerShot S

The Canon PowerShot S is a series of digital cameras released by Canon. The S-series was originally a line of compact point-and-shoot cameras, slowly evolving into a prosumer line of cameras slotting right beneath the G-series cameras. The line later branched off into Canon's line of super-zoom cameras. The PowerShot ELPH line is a branch of the S-series, due to its model number designations in the United States (with the S- and SD- prefixes), as well as the similarities between the PowerShot ELPH S100 and the PowerShot S10.

G-series in a compact body

From the PowerShot S90 onwards the S-series continues a line of Canon compact digital cameras that commenced with the Ixus 900Ti and feature the Digic image processors and larger than average sensors as fitted to the advanced PowerShot G-series cameras. Canon PowerShot S100

The Canon PowerShot S100 is a high-end 12.1-megapixel compact digital camera announced and released in 2011. It was designed as the successor to the Canon PowerShot S95 in the S series of the Canon PowerShot line of cameras.

The S100 is a similar camera to S90 and S95 with several significant improvements. It has improved noise reduction, white balance and shadow correction. This camera is the first camera in the S series line to use the CMOS Sensor which gives the camera a higher performance and better light sensitivity. The S100 is also the first camera in the series to feature 1080p video recording in 24 frames per second.

Canon has acknowledged that some PowerShot S100 digital cameras encounter a lens error caused by a disconnected part inside the camera. This makes the camera unusable. Canon offers free repairs well beyond the warranty date, even if the camera has a serial number outside the range mentioned in the product advisory.

Canon PowerShot S120

Designed as the successor to the Canon PowerShot S110 in the S series of cameras, the Canon PowerShot S120 is a high-end 12.1-megapixel compact digital camera with 0.3 f/-stops wider aperture, 0.7 bits more color depth, improved continuous shooting speeds, resolved Wi-Fi sharing functionality, 60fps HD video recording, lower noise at higher ISO, better sensor, and same DIGIC6 as current G series model for greater image quality. It was announced by Canon on August 22, 2013.

Canon PowerShot

The PowerShot products are a line of consumer and prosumer grade digital cameras, launched by Canon in 1996. The PowerShot line has been successful for Canon, and is one of the best-selling digital camera lines worldwide.

Free software from the Canon Hack Development Kit (CHDK) project allows nearly complete programmatic control of PowerShot cameras, enabling users to add features, up to and including BASIC & Lua scripting.

Some models of PowerShot cameras were affected by third-party CCD sensors with a design flaw, which caused them to fail and display severely distorted images. Canon offered to repair affected cameras free of charge.

Canon PowerShot S200

The Canon PowerShot S200 is a high-end 10.1-megapixel compact digital camera announced and released in 2014 by Canon. The PowerShot S200 is a cheaper version of the Powershot S110, utilizing a 10.1 MP CCD instead of a 12 MP CMOS sensor. It is built as a smaller brother the S-series of the Canon PowerShot line of cameras. The S200 does not have RAW image file formatting.

Canon PowerShot S95

The Canon PowerShot S95 is a high-end 10.0-megapixel compact digital camera announced and released in 2010. It was designed as the successor to the Canon PowerShot S90 in the S series of the Canon PowerShot line of cameras.

This model is considered high-end, professional, or prosumer because of its price, its feature set, and its high sensitivity image sensor. Its 10-megapixel image sensor is larger than typical sensors found in point-and-shoot cameras. This, along with the advanced image stabilization system, allows for sharp images in lower light scenarios, at an ISO of up to 3,200.

The S95 is similar to the S90, but adds a number of refinements. Among other things, it features a thinner body, improved image stabilization, an automated HDR shooting mode, 720p HD-quality video recording with stereo sound, and a more ergonomic finish and controls.

Other features include a Tracking Autofocus function, enabling it to track and focus on moving subjects.
