The levator anguli oris (caninus) is a facial muscle of the mouth arising from the canine fossa, immediately below the infraorbital foramen.
Its fibers are inserted into the angle of the mouth, intermingling with those of the Zygomaticus, Triangularis, and Orbicularis oris. Specifically, the levator anguli oris is innervated by the buccal branches of the facial nerve.

Caninus was a deathgrind band formed as a side project by Most Precious Blood guitarist Justin Brannan, Rachel Rosen, drummer Colin Thundercurry and two female pitbull terriers, Budgie and Basil. They are currently signed to War Torn Records and have three releases, including a split with Hatebeak and a 7" split with death metal band Cattle Decapitation. In 2008 Richard Christy played the drums on an unknown number of songs for Caninus.
On January 5, 2011, Basil, one of Caninus's pit-bulls, died. Basil had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and was euthanized. The band has ended because of the dog's death. Vocalist Budgie died in early 2016.
Get set to self destruct [x3]
No hope, no hope at all.
Nobody wins. No future.
Nobody lives. No hope at all.
Nobody cares. No Future.
We just go on and let suffering reign.
I crawled along the harvest floor
In my enemies shadow, last kicks of life
Out of the pale, into the night.
The brain is dead. Neurons have stopped.
Nobody wins. No future.
(no hope, no hope at all)
Nobody wins. No hope at all.
