The 2012 Campeonato Baiano de Futebol was the 108th season of Bahia's top professional football league. The competition began on January 18 and ended on May 13. Bahia won the championship for the 44th time, while Camaçari and Itabuna were relegated.
The championship has three stages. First stage, semifinals and finals. At first stage, the 12 teams play a double round-robin. The four best teams advance to the semifinals.
The champion and runner-up qualifies for the 2013 Copa do Brasil. The two worst teams are relegated. The best team that is not playing any Campeonato Brasileiro qualifies for the 2012 Campeonato Brasileiro Série D.

The 12 teams play in double round-robin in 22 rounds. The top 4 qualify for the Final Stage, the bottom team is relegated.
Final stage:
The 4 teams play in double round-robin in 6 rounds. The winners of Final Stage is the champions. The top 3 teams (except the clubs of Série A and Série B) qualify for the Série C.

On the first stage, all teams except those who are playing on Copa Nordeste, play against each other in single round-robin. The worst 2 teams are relegated, and the best five advance to the second stage. The five teams are joined by the three who were on the Copa Nordeste.
The eight teams are split in two groups, and play against the teams in the other group twice (home and away). The two best from each team advance to the final stage, where they face in the semifinals and then the finals.
