Cambuslang F.C.

Cambuslang Football Club was a Scottish football club, based in the Cambuslang area of Glasgow. Cambuslang was one of the founding members of the Scottish Football League, but left the league after just two seasons.

The club was founded in 1874 The new football club was named Excelsior with a pitch being laid out in Cambuslang Public Park known locally as Bogshole Park.

The new club were challenged by the lads from up the hill from the village of Halfway to play for the right to call themselves Cambuslang so the Excelsior team went to Halfway and in their first match hammered the lads from Halfway at Clyde Street Park by the scoreline of 6-0 and from then on the Excelsior named were scratched and Cambuslang and Athletic Football Club were formed.

In 1879 at a meeting at the Cross Hotel in Hamilton the secretary of Cambuslang was joined by the secretary's of Airdrie, Airdriehill, Drumpellier, Hamilton Academicals, Glengowan, Clydebank, Uddingston, West Benhar, Benhar and Stonelaw where it was agreed that each club would pay 10 shillings (50p) towards a county cup and the new district would be known as the Lanarkshire County Football Association and they would win the Lanarkshire Cup on two occasions and runners up four times before falling out with the Lanarkshire Football Association and joine Glasgow Football Association for 1887/88 season It reached the Scottish Cup Final in 1888, having beaten Abercorn 10–1 in the semi-finals with a goal from Billy mortimer. They won the inaugural Glasgow Cup in the same year. Cambuslang joined the Scottish Football League at its inauguration in 1890 and finished fourth in the 1890–91 season. The club finished last in the eleven team league in 1891–92, however, and did not seek re-election to the League. They made no effort to re-join the League when it added a Second Division.

Cambuslang ⁱ/ˈkæmbəsˈlæŋ/ (Scots: Cammuslang, from Scottish Gaelic: Camas Lang) is a suburban town on the south-eastern outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland. It is within the local authority area of South Lanarkshire. Historically, it was a large civil parish incorporating the nearby hamlets of Newton, Flemington, and Halfway.

The town is located just south of the River Clyde and about 6 miles (10 km) south-east of the centre of Glasgow. It has a long history of coal mining, iron and steel making, and ancillary engineering works, most recently Hoover. Tata Steel Europe's Clydebridge Steel Works and other smaller manufacturing businesses continue but most employment in the area comes from the distribution or service industries.

History

Cambuslang is an ancient part of Scotland where Iron Age remains loom over 21st century housing developments. The local geography explains a great deal of its history. It has been very prosperous over time, depending first upon its agricultural land, (supplying food, then wool, then linen), then the mineral resources under its soil (limestone and coal, and, to some extent, iron). These were jealously guarded by the medieval Church, and later by the local aristocracy, particularly the Duke of Hamilton (previously Barons of Cadzow and Earls of Arran).

APOEL FC (Greek: ΑΠΟΕΛ; short for Αθλητικός Ποδοσφαιρικός Όμιλος Ελλήνων Λευκωσίας, Athletikos Podosferikos Omilos Ellinon Lefkosias, "Athletic Football Club of Greeks of Nicosia") is a professional football club based in Nicosia, Cyprus. APOEL is the most popular football team in Cyprus and they are the most successful with an overall tally of 24 championships, 21 cups and 13 super cups.

APOEL's greatest moment in the European competitions occurred in the season 2011–12, when the club participated in the group stages of the 2011–12 UEFA Champions League (along with F.C. Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and Zenit St. Petersburg) and achieved qualification for the quarter-finals of the competition by topping the group and eliminating Olympique Lyonnais in the last 16, becoming the only Cypriot club to reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. APOEL's European competitions highlights include also appearances in the group stages of the 2009–10 & 2014–15 UEFA Champions League and the group stages of the 2013–14 & 2015–16 UEFA Europa League. History

The Company was founded in 1972 as the manager of the Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust under the name F&C Management Limited.

In 1985 the Company started managing third party funds. In 1989 the Company established a partnership with Germany’s HypoVereinsbank who acquired a 50% stake in the business; this stake was increased to 90% in 1998. In 2000 Eureko purchased HypoVereinsbank’s 90% stake and in 2001 went on to secure 100% control and consolidate their asset management activities with those of the Company under the F&C brand.

In 2004 ISIS Asset Management merged with F&C Management Limited to form F&C Asset Management and the combined business was then listed on the London Stock Exchange.

In 2008 Friends Provident announced its intention to divest its shareholding in F&C Asset Management. This was completed in 2009.

On 7 May 2014, F&C Asset Management plc was acquired by Bank of Montreal through its wholly owned subsidiary, BMO Global Asset Management (Europe) Limited.
