California State Route 99

State Route 99 (SR 99), commonly known as Highway 99 or, simply, as 99 (without any further designation), is a north–south state highway in the U.S. state of California, stretching almost the entire length of the Central Valley. From its southern end at Interstate 5 (I-5) near Wheeler Ridge to its northern end at SR 36 near Red Bluff, SR 99 goes through the densely populated eastern parts of the valley. Cities served include Bakersfield, Visalia, Fresno, Madera, Merced, Modesto, Stockton, Sacramento, Turlock, Yuba City, and Chico.

The highway is a remnant of the former Mexico to Canada U.S. Route 99 (US 99), which was decommissioned after being functionally replaced by I-5 for long-distance traffic. Almost all of SR 99 south of Sacramento is a freeway, and there are plans to complete this part to Interstate Highway standards, as a parallel route to I-5 for Los Angeles–Sacramento traffic. North of Sacramento, the road ranges from a rural two-lane road to a four-lane freeway.

Arkansas Highway 99

Highway 99 was a north–south highway in northwestern Arkansas. Its southern terminus was at Highway 45 near Dutch Mills with its northern terminus at the Arkansas-Oklahoma state line 1.5 miles (2.4 km) northwest of Maysville, where it continued as Oklahoma State Highway 20 . In the 1930s it was truncated to Highway 68 (now U.S. Highway 412) in Siloam Springs, Arkansas and replaced by Highway 59. The northern segment was replaced by Highway 43 in 1971.

Missouri Route 99

Route 99 is a short highway in southern Missouri. Its northern terminus is at U.S. Route 60 just north of Birch Tree in Shannon County; its southern terminus is at U.S. Route 160 south of Thomasville in Oregon County 18.3 miles (29.5 km) to the SSE. It crosses the Eleven Point River at Thomasville. Just south of Thomasville Route 99 provides access to the west end of the Eleven Point Wild and Scenic River portion of the Mark Twain National Forest.

Virginia State Route 99

State Route 99 (SR 99) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs 5.20 miles (8.37 km) from the north town limit of Pulaski east to SR F-047 just east of Interstate 81 (I-81) and SR 100 at McAdam.

Route description

SR 99 begins at the north town limit of Pulaski. The highway continues north into unincorporated Pulaski County as SR 738 (Robinson Tract Road). SR 99 heads south as two-lane Randolph Avenue. At the west edge of downtown, SR 99 splits into a one-way pair. Westbound SR 99 turns onto Randolph Avenue from 3rd Street while eastbound SR 99 turns from Randolph Avenue onto Main Street, which parallels Peak Creek through downtown. Each direction of SR 99 follows two-way streets east to Jefferson Avenue, where both Main and 3rd become one-way. One block to the east, SR 99 intersects U.S. Route 11 (Washington Avenue). Two blocks east of US 11, Main Street becomes a four-lane divided highway as the two directions of the state highway come together. SR 99 gains a median west of Bob White Boulevard, where the highway reduces to two lanes, begins to curve to the south, and crosses Norfolk Southern Railway's Pulaski District and Peak Creek. At the east town limit of Pulaski, the state highway becomes Count Pulaski Drive, which expands to a four-lane divided highway shortly before reaching its partial cloverleaf interchange with I-81 and SR 100 and, just to the south, its eastern terminus at SR F-047 (Kirby Road) in the hamlet of McAdam.

New York State Route 99

New York State Route 99 (NY 99) was a state highway in Franklin County, New York, in the United States. The western terminus of the route was at an intersection with NY 30 in Duane. Its eastern terminus was at a junction with NY 3 near the Franklin community of Merrillsville. NY 99 was known as the Port Kent–Hopkinton Turnpike and maintained by Franklin County, which co-designated the highway as County Route 26 (CR 26). The narrow, winding route passed through isolated and heavily wooded areas of Adirondack Park.

The routing of NY 99 was originally part of the Port Kent and Hopkinton Turnpike, a 19th-century toll road that began in the town of Hopkinton and passed through central Franklin County on its way to the hamlet of Port Kent on the shores of Lake Champlain. The portion of the turnpike between Duane Center and Merrillsville was designated as NY 99 as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York. It remained unchanged until September 26, 1994, when the NY 99 designation was removed from the highway.

Massachusetts Route 99

Route 99 is a north–south state highway in metropolitan Boston.

Route description

Route 99 begins at the intersection of New Rutherford Avenue and Chelsea Street, over the northbound tunnel of U.S. Route 1 created during the Big Dig. It continues along New Rutherford Avenue, passing onramps to Route 1 and Bunker Hill Community College before entering Sullivan Square, where Route 38 begins next to the MBTA station. It then turns northeastward onto Alford Street, crossing the Malden Bridge over the Mystic River. After passing through a small strip of Boston on the east banks of the river, the route enters Everett and becomes Broadway.

Broadway crosses through Sweetser Circle, the intersection with Route 16 and the Revere Beach Parkway. The route continues northeastward into the city of Malden, where it intersects Route 60. The route continues on through a short (0.25 miles (0.40 km)) corner of Melrose before entering Saugus. Once in Saugus the route terminates at ramps leading back to Route 1.
