Calendar Girls

Calendar Girls is a 2003 comedy film directed by Nigel Cole. Produced by Buena Vista International and Touchstone Pictures, it features a screenplay by Tim Firth and Juliette Towhidi based on a true story of a group of Yorkshire women who produced a nude calendar to raise money for Leukaemia Research under the auspices of the Women's Institutes in April 1999.

Starring an ensemble cast headed by Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, with Linda Bassett, Annette Crosbie, Celia Imrie, Penelope Wilton and Geraldine James playing key supporting roles, the film garnered generally positive reactions by film critics, and at a budget of $10 million it became a major success, eventually grossing $96,000,000 worldwide following its theatrical release in the United States. In addition, the picture was awarded the British Comedy Award for Best Comedy Film, and spawned ALFS Award Empire Award, Satellite Award and Golden Globe nominations for Mirren and Walters respectively.

In 2008 the film was adapted into a stage play.

Calendar Girls (2015 film)

Calendar Girls is a 2015 Indian drama film directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and co-produced by Sangeeta Ahir and Bhandarkar Entertainment. The film's music was composed by Meet Bros Anjjan and Amaal Mallik. The film released on 25 September 2015 to highly positive reviews. According to director Madhur Bhandarkar, the story of Calendar Girls is 75% reality and 25% fiction.

Plot

The film focuses on five girls who hail from different regions of India, and who have been selected to pose for the country's most prestigious annual calendar which is a joint effort between business tycoon Kumar Kukreja and his photographer friend Timmy Anand.

Suhel Seth and Rohit Roy have also played significant role in Calendar Girls. Five new actresses have made their debut in Hindi film industry with Calendar Girls. The teaser of Calendar Girls was released on 1 July 2015. The film's trailer was released on 17 August 2015. Calendar Girls was banned from release in Pakistan.

Calendar Girls (play)

Calendar Girls is a stage play based on the film of the same name.

After a successful try-out at the Chichester Festival Theatre in September 2008 and a lengthy national tour, a stage adaptation of the film started previewing on 4 April 2009 at the Noël Coward Theatre in the West End, opening on 20 April. The original cast included Lynda Bellingham, Patricia Hodge, Siân Phillips, Gaynor Faye, Brigit Forsyth, Julia Hills and Elaine C. Smith.

It was adapted by Tim Firth and directed by Hamish McColl. While the play has been a financial success (it took in over £1.7 million in advance ticket sales), the critical reception has been mixed.

The play closed at the Noël Coward Theatre in London on 9 January 2010 before embarking on a second national tour which began on 27 January 2010. The show has had several different casts to keep it fresh and to also allow producers to bring well known actresses into the play who do not want to commit to long runs. The second national tour finished in December 2012.
