It is the core city of the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), which encompasses a ten county area. Under the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) model, it is the third largest metropolitan area in Ohio, virtually tied with the Cleveland MSA and slightly behind the Cincinnati MSA (which includes portions of Kentucky and Indiana).

Under the Combined Statistical Area (CSA) model, the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area was the 28th largest in the United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Columbus-Marion-Zanesville, OH Combined Statistical Area (which also includes Marion, Chillicothe, and Mount Vernon) has a population of 2,370,839, making it the second largest metropolitan area in Ohio behind Cleveland. Downtown Columbus, Ohio

Downtown Columbus is the Central Business District of Columbus, Ohio, United States. The area centers on the intersection of Broad and High streets, with the northeast corners being known simple as Broad & High by the surrounding businesses and media. Downtown as a whole encompasses all the area inside the inner belt and is home to most of the largest buildings in Columbus. The State Capitol is located on the southeast corner of Broad & High, in Capitol Square. Downtown is also home to Columbus State Community College, Franklin University, Columbus College of Art and Design, Grant Medical Center, Capital University Law School, as well as the main branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, the Main Street Bridge and many parks. Downtown has many neighborhoods or "districts", but it can easily be separated into three main areas; The Discovery District, High Street Corridor, and the Riverfront. The Short North, Italian Village, and Victorian Village are directly north of Downtown. Olde Towne East, and the historic King-Lincoln District are directly east, while the Brewery District and German Village are directly south of Downtown. Franklinton is to the west of Downtown, with a portion of Franklinton in Downtown. In the northwest area is the Arena District, a mixed-use development centered on Nationwide Arena, the home of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Arena District also includes the baseball stadium Huntington Park and the Lifestyle Communities Pavilion.

Columbus

Better keep your distance from this whale
Better keep your boat from going astray
Find yourself a partner and treat them well
Try to give them shelter night and day
'Cause here in the blue light
Far away from the fireside
Things can get twisted and crazy and crowded
You can't even feel right
So I dream of columbus
Every time the panic starts
I dream of columbus
With your maps and your beautiful charts
I dream of columbus
There's an ache in a traveling heart
See how the cormorant swoops and dives
Must be a thrill to go that deep
Down to the basement of this life
Down to where the mermaid gently sleeps
Not like here in the blue light
Far away from the fireside
Where things get twisted and
Haunted and crowded
You can't even feel right
So I dream of columbus
Every time the panic starts
I dream of columbus
With your maps and your beautiful charts
I dream of columbus
There's an ache in a traveling heart
As the tide must ebb and flow
I am dragged down under
I wait the livelong day
For an end to my hunger
So I dream of columbus
Every time the panic starts
I dream of columbus
With your maps and your beautiful charts
I dream of columbus
