CKIC-FM
CKIC-FM was an instructional over-the-air campus radio station that broadcast in Winnipeg on the frequency 92.9 FM from April 27, 2004 to July 4, 2012. Starting in the Fall of 2012, it plans to return to the air as an internet-only radio station.
The original purpose of the station was to provide real-world education in the field of radio broadcasting to students enrolled in the Creative Communications program at Red River College and to deliver programming distinct from that offered by other radio stations within the city.
In November 2003, former 92 CITI-FM (Winnipeg) and 100.3 The Q (Victoria) personality and programmer Rick Baverstock was hired as the station manager for Kick-FM.
Kick-FM is owned and operated by the non-profit corporation, Cre-Comm Radio, Inc.
History
The station began broadcasting a test signal on December 15, 2003 and officially launched on April 27, 2004. Initially, the station followed an Triple-A format. At the time, this was the first of its kind in Canada. Kick-FM used the tag line 'A Rock 'n' Soul Adventure' for the first year of its existence.
