City FM 89

CityFM89 is a Pakistani radio station network. It is broadcast from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Faisalabad. It was established in 2004 and is a subsidiary company of the Dawn Media Group CityFM89 is Pakistan’s No.1 FM Network. Our broadcast network comprises four stations in the cities of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Faisalabad, with a combined audience of no less than one million households across the nation.

CityFM89 was launched in July 2004 with an objective to set a trend of radio listener-ship in Pakistan. Where tapes and CDs were the usual source of music entertainment in cars, homes and public outlets, CityFM89 was born to establish an entertainment medium to transcend the boundaries that other radio channels had restricted themselves to.

Clustered around the urban metropolises of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Faisalabad, CityFM89 can be found not only on radios at home or in cars, but is at restaurants and shopping outlets as well. It is headquartered in Karachi.

Brief history

City FM in Melbourne Australia was established and developed in Melbourne, Australia to provide for a community-based radio service to the diverse inner city population of Melbourne; thus it was identified as CityFM.

The station also presented a mix of new music, with club classics - and gained its popularity primarily based on the music mix, however the radio station offered a number of personalities and a format that was a viable listening alternative to the mainstream commercial broadcasters.

City FM was one of many temporary broadcasters at the time vying for a full-time radio licence, that was to be issued to not-for-profit organisations by the Australian Broadcasting Authority.

The first of the temporary radio stations, were suburban community radio broadcasting groups, which under the broadcasting legislation in place in the 1980s the then Australian Broadcasting Tribunal permitted up to two weeks of temporary broadcasts per broadcast group with a maximum allocation of 4 weeks per annum. These broadcasts were referred to at that time as "Test Broadcasts", designed to test either facilities of readiness to broadcast and audience response to the proposed service being trialled at the time of the test broadcast.

There is not enough evidence to assert what conditions gave rise to the first cities. Some theorists have speculated on what they consider suitable pre-conditions and basic mechanisms that might have been important driving forces.

City classes

Legally, a city in Washington can be described primarily by its class. There are five classes of cities in Washington:

First class cities are cities with a population over 10,000 at the time of reorganization and operating under a home rule charter. They are permitted to perform any function specifically granted them by Title 35 RCW (Revised Code of Washington). Among them are Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Vancouver, and Yakima.

Second class cities are cities with a population over 1,500 at the time of reorganization and operating without a home rule charter. Like first class cities, they are permitted to perform any function specifically granted them by Title 35 RCW. Among them are Port Orchard, Wapato, and Colville.

Towns are municipalities with a population of under 1,500 at the time of reorganization. Towns are not authorized to operate under a charter. Like the previously listed cities, they are permitted to perform any function specifically granted them by Title 35 RCW. Among them are Steilacoom, Friday Harbor, Eatonville, and Waterville. In 1994, the legislature made 1,500 the minimum population required to incorporate.

Each county is run by a five-member Commissioners' Court consisting of four commissioners elected from single-member districts (called commissioner precincts) and a county judge elected at-large. All county elections are partisan, and commissioner precincts are redistricted after each ten year Census both to equalize the voting power in each and in consideration of the political party preferences of the voters in each.
