Vicente Cervantes

Vicente (Vincente) de Cervantes (1755 – 1829) was a notable Spanish and Mexican physician and botanist.

Background

Don Vicente Cervantes was a contemporary of Martín Sessé y Lacasta and corresponded with Jean-Louis Berlandier, the French naturalist who botanized in Mexico and Texas as part of the Mexican Boundary Commission. He was also the first Professor of Botany in New Spain, at the Royal Botanic Garden in Mexico City.

It is after him that the magnificent Odontoglossum orchid, the "Cervantes odontoglot" (Odontoglossum cervantesii), is named.

Juan Diego del Castillo (d. 1793) joined Cervantes in Mexico. Del Castillo left a large sum of money towards the printing of their projected book Flora Mexicana. Cervantes named the genus Castilla after him.

The Assembly of European Wine-producing Regions or Assemblée des Régions Européennes Viticoles (AREV) is an organisation of political and trade representatives of wine regions within the European Union (EU) and Eastern Europe. It lobbies the EU on matters affecting its members, and acts as a forum for discussion of policy and marketing.

History

The European Wine Regions Conference (CERV) was created on 20 June 1988 under Alsatian law. It became the Assembly of European Wine Regions (AREV) in 1994. It is financed by membership subscriptions, and is based in Bordeaux with an office in Strasbourg. The industry representatives are grouped together in the European Wine Trade Council (CEPV), which drafts documents to be approved by the plenary council.

Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle

The Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle (CERV) is a series of Chevrolet experimental cars. Chevrolet Staff engineer, designer, and race car driver Zora Arkus-Duntov started development of the CERV I in 1959, and began work on the CERV II in 1963. Chevrolet Chief Engineer Don Runkle and Lotus' Tony Rudd discussed creating a new show car to demonstrate their engineering expertise in 1985; It would become the CERV III. Corvette chief engineer Dave Hill unveiled the CERV IV in 1993, a test vehicle for the 1997 C5 Corvette.

CERV I

Zora Arkus-Duntov, Chevrolet Staff engineer, designer, and race car driver started development of the "CERV I" (Chevrolet Experimental Racing Vehicle) in 1959, which was unveiled to the public at the Riverside International Raceway November 1960, under the name "CERV I" (Chevrolet Experimental Research Vehicle).

Overview

CERV-I (Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle) was developed as a research tool for that company's continuous efforts to understand automotive ride and handling phenomena under the most realistic conditions. The car was built at the Chevrolet Engineering Center at Warren, Michigan. The primary function of the "CERV-1", was to provide Chevrolet engineers with a test platform from which direct visual studies were made from all types of ride and handling behavior under amplified conditions.
