2009 College Basketball Invitational

The 2009 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2009 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament or the 2009 National Invitation Tournament. The opening round began Tuesday, March 17. A best-of-three championship series between Oregon State and UTEP resulted in an Oregon State victory on April 3. The 2009 CBI marked the first ever postseason tournament championship for Oregon State as well as a successful conclusion to head coach Craig Robinson's first year. The Beavers were honored with a visit to the White House with president Barack Obama; Robinson is the brother of First Lady Michelle Obama.

2008 College Basketball Invitational

The 2008 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2008 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament or the 2008 National Invitation Tournament. The inaugural tournament began on March 18 on campus sites and ended on April 4, won by the University of Tulsa, defeating their former Missouri Valley Conference rivals Bradley University in the best-of-three final. Tulsa center Jerome Jordan was the tournament MVP. The CBI was the first newly created post-season tournament since the Collegiate Commissioners Association Tournament in 1974.

The opening round was played on March 18 and 19, 2008 with the second round being played on March 24 and the semifinals on March 26. The championship was a best-of-three series with games being played on March 31, April 2, and April 4 of that year. The bracketing was done in East, West, South and Midwest regions. Following the quarterfinals, the teams were reseeded.

College Basketball Invitational

The College Basketball Invitational (CBI) is a men's college basketball tournament created in 2007 by The Gazelle Group. The inaugural tournament occurred after the conclusion of the 2007–08 men's college basketball regular season. The CBI selects 16 teams that are not selected for the NCAA Tournament or the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). In the CBI teams compete on home courts and is a single elimination, until the final two teams are determined, and then the championship is determined by a best two-out-of-three format.
