C.C.C.C. (band)

C.C.C.C. (a.k.a. Cosmic Coincidence Control Center) was a noise band from Japan, alongside such bands as Merzbow and Incapacitants.

Description

The core line up of this noise music band consisted of Hiroshi Hasegawa (長谷川洋) (also of the bands Astro & Mortal Vision) and former bondage-porn star Mayuko Hino. Hino would occasionally, during live shows, reprise this element of her past into her performances by engaging in such acts as onstage striptease. Another notorious feature of their live shows was the plastic bags of urine that were thrown into the audience. Other members were occasionally and variably brought in for work on single albums, but had no permanent membership in the band.

Aesthetically, the band - and Mayuko Hino in particular - advocated a very emotive and cathartic approach to noise music as opposed to the conceptual and intellectual approaches advocated by many European noise musicians, most notably within the "power electronics" subgenre. Mayuko Hino believes that an emotional, rather than an intellectual, approach to noise not only creates more interesting sounds, but reveals much about the personality of the noisemaker.

Procyanidin C2

Procyanidin C2 is a B type proanthocyanidin trimer, a type of condensed tannin.

Natural occurrences

Procyanidin C2 is found in grape seeds (Vitis vinifera) and wine, in barley (Hordeum vulgare),malt and beer, in Betula spp., in Pinus radiata, in Potentilla viscosa, in Salix caprea or in Cryptomeria japonica.

The contents in barley grain of trimeric proanthocyanidins, including procyanidin C2, range from 53 to 151 μg catechin equivalents/g.

Possible health uses

Proanthocyanidin oligomers, extracted from grape seeds, have been used for the experimental treatment of androgenic alopecia. When applied topically, they promote hair growth in vitro, and induce anagen in vivo. Procyanidin C2 is the subtype of extract most effective.

Experiments showed that both procyanidin C2 and Pycnogenol (French maritime pine bark extract) increase TNF-α secretion in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. These results demonstrate that procyanidins act as modulators of the immune response in macrophages.

Diarylheptanoid

The diarylheptanoids (also known as Diphenylheptanoids) are a relatively small class of plant secondary metabolites. Diarylheptanoids consist of two aromatic rings (aryl groups) joined by a seven carbons chain (heptane) and having various substituents. They can be classified into linear (curcuminoids) and cyclic diarylheptanoids. The best known member is curcumin, which is isolated from turmeric (Curcuma longa) and is known as food coloring E100. Some other Curcuma species, such as Curcuma comosa also produce diarylheptanoids.

They have been reported from plant in 10 different families, e.g. Betulaceae and Zingiberaceae.

A diarylheptanoid is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of phenylphenalenones in Anigozanthos preissii or Wachendorfia thyrsiflora (Haemodoraceae).

Cyclic diarylheptanoids

Cyclic diarylheptanoids formed from myricanone can be isolated from the bark of Myrica rubra (Myricaceae). Two cyclic diarylheptanoids, named ostryopsitrienol and ostryopsitriol, can be isolated from the stems of endemic Chinese medicinal plant Ostryopsis nobilis (Betulaceae). Acerogenin M can be found in Acer nikoense (Sapindaceae). Jugcathayenoside and (+)-galeon can be found in the root bark of Juglans cathayensis (Juglandaceae).
