Eddie Fontaine (March 6, 1927 – April 13, 1992) was an American actor and singer, best known for television roles in the 1960s and 1970s.
Born Edward Reardon in Springfield, Massachusetts, Fontaine signed as a vocalist with RCA in 1954 after serving in the US Navy. In 1955 he appeared at the Brooklyn Paramount Theater in disc jockey Alan Freed's first rock and roll show. He also sang in the Jayne Mansfield movie The Girl Can't Help It (1956). Musically he is best remembered for his 1958 single "Nothin' Shakin' (But the Leaves on the Trees)", which was later covered by The Beatles. He is listed as a "legend" but not an inductee at the Rockabilly Hall of Fame site.
Fontaine moved to Van Nuys, California, in the 1960s after singing in night clubs in pre-Castro Cuba. He landed a role in the World War II series The Gallant Men, where he played ladies' man PFC Pete D'Angelo and occasionally sang. Although he never won another regular role in a television series Fontaine made many guest appearances on shows such as 77 Sunset Strip, Baretta, Happy Days, The Rockford Files and Quincy.
Bye Bye Love may refer to:
"Bye Bye Love" is a song by the American Boston-based rock band The Cars. The song appears on the band's 1978 eponymous debut album. It was written by singer/songwriter/bandleader Ric Ocasek and sung by bassist Benjamin Orr.
"Bye Bye Love" is one of The Cars' oldest songs, dating back to the mid 1970s. The song was first performed, and recorded as a demo, by the band Cap'n Swing, which featured Ocasek, Orr, and guitarist Elliot Easton as members. In this early version, the recurring keyboard theme between the verse lyrics was significantly different.
The song was later revived to appear on The Cars in 1978. Although the song was not released as a single, it has received regular airplay since the album was released.
Rolling Stone critic Kit Rachlis said in his review of The Cars that "the songs bristle and -- in their harsher, more angular moments ('Bye Bye Love,' 'Don't Cha Stop') -- bray." Jaime Welton, author of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, described the track as a "fan favorite", praising Elliot Easton as an "unsung hero, littering songs like 'Bye Bye Love' with staggeringly good fills."AllMusic critic Greg Prato called it one of the "lesser-known compositions [that] are just as exhilarating" as the "familiar hits" on The Cars.
Bye Bye Love is a 1995 American comedy-drama film that deals with the central issue of divorce. It was directed by Sam Weisman and written by Gary David Goldberg and Brad Hall. It stars Matthew Modine, Randy Quaid, Paul Reiser, Janeane Garofalo, Amy Brenneman, Eliza Dushku, Rob Reiner, Amber Benson, and Lindsay Crouse. Production costs were heavily underwritten by McDonald's product placement.
Goldberg and Hall stated that they included in the script several fictionalized accounts of events that had happened to divorced friends of theirs.
Also acting in the film were Jayne Brook, and Ed Flanders in his last movie role. A not-yet-famous Jack Black has one line ("Reefer?") as a disc jockey at a party.
Co-stars Amber Benson and Eliza Dushku went on to play main roles on the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as did Lindsay Crouse.
This is a story about the breakup of the family. In particular, it focuses on the lifestyle of three divorced men in the Los Angeles area, Dave Goldman (Matthew Modine), wrestling coach/driver's ed teacher Vic Damico (Randy Quaid), and real estate agent Donny Carson (Paul Reiser).
I'm finding out what love is all about
And every day at three when school lets out
I see my baby I get weak in the knees
There's nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
Why must she be such a doggone tease?
There's nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
We meet the gang and go to Rockin' Joe's
The cats are stompin' on their heels and toes
I grab my baby, tried to give her a squeeze
Nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
My daddy told me there'd be times like these
There's nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
She's got a way that makes me act like a fool
Oh, she spends my money then she plays me cruel
I'm beggin' her for kisses on bended knees
Gimme some lovin' baby, please, please, please
But I keep trying hard to make her mine
Someday the wind will blow, the sun will shine
Until that time she puts my heart at ease
There's nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
She locked my heart and threw away the keys
There's nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
Ha ha ha!
Nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
She's got a way that makes me act like a fool
Oh, spends my money then she plays me cruel
I'm beggin' for her kisses on bended knees
Why don't ya gimme some lovin' baby, please, please,
please
But I keep trying hard to make her mine
Someday the wind will blow, the sun will shine
Until that time she puts my heart at ease
There's nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
Why must she be such a doggone tease?
There's nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
Nothin' shakin' but the leaves on the trees
Nothin' shakin', oh shakin'
