Bushwick, Brooklyn

Bushwick is a rapidly gentrifying working- and middle-class neighborhood in the northern part of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The neighborhood, formerly Brooklyn's 18th Ward, is now part of Brooklyn Community Board 4. It is policed by the NYPD's 83rd Precinct and is represented in the New York City Council as part of Districts 34 and 37.

Bushwick shares a border with Ridgewood, Queens, to the northeast, and is bound by the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Williamsburg to the northwest; East New York and the cemeteries of Highland Park to the southeast; Brownsville to the south; and Bedford-Stuyvesant to the southwest. It is served by ZIP codes 11206, 11207, 11221, and 11237. Bushwick was once an independent town and has undergone various territorial changes throughout its history.

Boundaries

Neighborhoods in New York do not have official boundaries; informal boundaries are often contested, and this has been the case with Bushwick. However, the boundaries of Bushwick are often given as those of Brooklyn Community Board 4, which is delineated by Flushing Avenue on the north, Broadway on the southwest, the border with Queens to the northeast, and the Cemetery of the Evergreens on the southeast.

Bushwick (LIRR station)

Bushwick, also known as Bushwick Terminal was a train station along the Bushwick Branch, and terminal of the Bushwick Branch of the Long Island Rail Road from February 29, 1876, to 1924. Bushwick Terminal was located at Montrose Avenue and Bushwick Avenue in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It opened on July 18, 1868, and closed with the end of passenger service on the Bushwick Branch on May 13, 1924. Steam engines served the station until 1913. The station building made in brick survived until recently and was the last vestige of the passenger terminal of the Bushwick Branch. Before it was demolished, the building was used as an automobile repair shop. The terminal building was replaced by a building that was in the process of being built in October 2007, and holds trucks.

Bushwick Yard

Bushwick Yard consisted of 13 tracks, and one run around track. One of the tracks led to Bushwick Terminal. Currently the site is mostly occupied by a lumber yard, and is blocked off from the rest of the Bushwick Branch by a fence. Most of the tracks in the yard have been covered up by asphalt.

Bushwick (film)

Bushwick is an upcoming American action thriller film directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion and written by Nick Damici and Graham Reznick. The film stars Dave Bautista, and Brittany Snow. Principal photography began early December 2015 in Brooklyn, New York City.

Production

On March 4, 2015, it was announced that Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion would direct the disaster action thriller film Bushwick based on the script by Nick Damici and Graham Reznick, while producers would be XYZ Films' Nate Bolotin and Bullet Pictures' Adam Folk. Jane Levy was attached to play the female lead role of Lucy. On September 9, 2015, Dave Bautista also joined the film to play a war veteran Stupe, both Lucy and him meet during a military invasion of Brooklyn and they decide to cross five blocks of Bushwick to get home. On November 4, 2015, Brittany Snow was cast in the film replacing Levy to play her role Lucy.

Principal photography on the film began early December 2015 in Brooklyn, New York City.
