Bush (brand)

Bush is a British consumer electronics brand owned by Home Retail Group, and is one of the most famous names on early British radios. Its sister brand is Alba. Today, all Bush and Alba products are sold exclusively at Argos and Homebase.

History

Original Bush company

The company was founded in 1932 as Bush Radio, from the remains of the Graham Amplion company that made horn loudspeakers, as a subsidiary of the Gaumont British Picture Corporation. The brand name comes from their Shepherd's Bush studios. The company expanded rapidly moving to a new factory at Power Road, Chiswick in 1936.

Bush became part of the Rank empire in 1945 and a brand new factory was opened at Ernesettle, Plymouth in 1949. In 1950 the popular DAC90A and DAC10 radios were launched, along with the distinctive TV22 television.

The Bush TR82 transistor radio, designed by Ogle Design, and launched in 1959, is regarded as an icon of early radio design. Although the first radio to use the Ogle cabinet design was actually the MB60, a battery/mains valve set from 1957-59.

Brand, Nuth

Brand is a hamlet in the municipality of Nuth in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. It is one of the so-called Bovengehuchten, or Upper Hamlets, of Nuth. Brand is located south of the stream Platsbeek.

The hamlet consists of five houses along the Branterweg. This road connects the hamlets Tervoorst and Helle. Some houses, including a farm named Op genne Brant, are constructed with timber framing. Brand is often mistakenly regarded as part of the nearby hamlet Terstraten. Brand got its own town sign in 2003.

George H. W. Bush

George Herbert Walker Bush (born June 12, 1924) is an American politician who served as the 41st President of the United States (1989–93), and the 43rd Vice President of the United States (1981–89). A Republican, he previously served as a congressman, an ambassador, and Director of Central Intelligence. He is the oldest living former President and Vice President. He is also the last living former President who is a veteran of World War II. Bush is often referred to as "George H. W. Bush", "Bush 41", "Bush the Elder", or "George Bush Sr." to distinguish him from his son, former President George W. Bush. Prior to his son's presidency, he was known simply as George Bush or President Bush.

Bush was born in Milton, Massachusetts, to Prescott Bush and Dorothy Walker Bush. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Bush postponed college, enlisted in the U.S. Navy on his 18th birthday, and became the youngest aviator in the U.S. Navy at the time. He served until the end of the war, then attended Yale University. Graduating in 1948, he moved his family to West Texas and entered the oil business, becoming a millionaire by the age of 40.
