Burning Love

"Burning Love" is a song written by Dennis Linde and originally recorded by country soul artist Arthur Alexander, who included it on his 1972 self-titled album. It was soon covered and brought to fame by Elvis Presley, becoming his biggest hit single in the United States since "Suspicious Minds" in 1969 and his last Top 10 hit in the American Hot 100 or pop charts.

Elvis version

Elvis Presley's cover version became much more popular than the original version, and was released as a single on August 1, 1972, with the B-side "It's a Matter of Time", and it reached the Top 40 on the country charts, peaking at #36. Elvis had recorded it at RCA's Hollywood studios on March 28, 1972. The electric guitar opening and riffs were overdubbed and played by Dennis Linde himself.

For the week of October 21, 1972, "Burning Love" rose to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, being kept from #1 by Chuck Berry's novelty song "My Ding-a-Ling." However, it reached #1 on Cashbox's Top 40 Charts for the week of November 11, which gave him 20 US #1 hits. The song was Elvis's 40th and last Top Ten hit on the US charts. It was also one of the last real rock songs in the last years of his life; from 1972 to 1977 the majority of his songs were ballads, and many of those placed on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart. "Burning Love" was one of the few exceptions, along with "Promised Land" in 1974.

Burning Love is a hardcore punk band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada formed in 2007. The band consists Chris Colohan of the hardcore band Cursed and of the ex-members of Toronto-based sludge band Our Father. The band have released two albums, two EPs and a number of split singles.

History

Burning Love started in 2007 as a side project to the Toronto bands Cursed and Our Father. This lineup included Colohan (ex-Cursed), a prominent figure in the Canadian hardcore scene, and Our Father members bassist Dave O'Connor, guitarists Pat Marshall and Andrus Meret, and drummer Easton Lannaman. While the band began recording their first EP in 2007, it was abandoned due to their dissatisfaction with the recording (most of the songs would appear on their 2009 demo cassette and EP). It was not until the sudden breakup of Cursed that the band began (in 2008/2009) writing and recording full-time.

Burning Love (2008–2009)

Following the dissolution of Cursed in 2008, Burning Love recorded a 10-minute demo and released it on 8-track tape and free digital download. The demo was later pressed into a self-titled 7 inch in 2009 and released first on British label Thirty Days of Night Records (to coincide with a UK tour), and then domestically 24 April 2010 on Deranged Records.

Love Symbol Album

is the fourteenth studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on October 13, 1992 by Paisley Park Records and Warner Bros. Records. Due to its official title being an unpronounceable symbol, which Prince later adopted as his name, the album has been referred to as the Love Symbol Album, Symbol Album, or simply Symbol. It is Prince's second album to feature his backing group, The New Power Generation, which received co-billing for the release. The album contains elements of musical styles including funk, R&B, hip hop, jazz, reggae, and synthpop. It has sold over five million copies worldwide.

The album's first two singles, "My Name Is Prince" and "Sexy MF", achieved modest success on the US pop charts, though both made the top ten in the UK. Conversely, the third single, "7", was not as successful as the first two singles in the UK, but was a top ten hit in the US. The album was originally conceived as a "fantasy rock soap opera" with various spoken segues throughout. However, in a last-minute attempt to add an additional song ("I Wanna Melt with U", which was originally considered to be a B-side to the "7" maxi-single, and which contains several sampled sounds also present in "7"), most of the segues had to be cut for album length. The few that remained were somewhat confusing in context. The album debuts Mayte Garcia, who plays a part in the album's storyline and would become Prince's wife in 1996. Early pressings of the album featured an embossed gold love symbol on the jewel case, while later editions feature it printed on the booklet or not present on either.
