Burn

A burn is a type of injury to skin , or other tissues, caused by heat, electricity, chemicals, friction, or radiation. Burns that affect only the superficial skin layers are known as superficial or first-degree burns. When the injury extends into some of the underlying layers, it is described as a partial-thickness or second-degree burn. In a full-thickness or third-degree burn, the injury extends to all layers of the skin. A fourth-degree burn additionally involves injury to deeper tissues, such as muscle, tendons, or bone.

The treatment required depends on the severity of the burn. Superficial burns may be managed with little more than simple pain medication, while major burns may require prolonged treatment in specialized burn centers. Cooling with tap water may help relieve pain and decrease damage; however, prolonged exposure may result in low body temperature. Partial-thickness burns may require cleaning with soap and water, followed by dressings. It is not clear how to manage blisters, but it is probably reasonable to leave them intact. Full-thickness burns usually require surgical treatments, such as skin grafting. Extensive burns often require large amounts of intravenous fluid, because the subsequent inflammatory response causes significant capillary fluid leakage and edema. The most common complications of burns involve infection.

Burn has two hidden tracks on the CD release. The first is a cover of The Doors, "Strange Days" which is found by rewinding the CD to -4:20 on a CD player (this may not work on software media players). The second is a reprise of the song "Inside" found at 8:43 on the final track.

Burn (Havok album)

Burn is the first full-length album recorded by the thrash metal band, Havok. It was released in 2009 on Candlelight Records.

Background

Drum, bass and guitar recording started in mid-2008 in the basement of singer/guitarist David Sanchez's mother's house, in Lakewood, CO. It took roughly 6 months. Vocals were recorded later at Motaland Studios in Denver with engineer Bart McCrorey, who also mixed the album. The band did not work with a producer due to a limited budget of roughly $2,500.

Halsey Swain provided the artwork after an earlier version of the same concept by another artist was rejected.

The album consists of 5 tracks that had been previously released on various EPs or demos and 7 tracks that were original to the album. Bassist Justin Cantrell contributed "Morbid Symmetry" to the songwriting process, but left the band before recording began. This track was designated the "single" for the album, though no actual single was ever released. Jessie De Los Santos replaced him. Drummer Ryan Bloom left the band shortly before the album's release date and was not permanently replaced until 2010. His credit on the album reads, "drum tracks by Ryan Bloom," and he was the lyricist for "Ivory Tower."

Leaf

A leaf is an organ of a vascular plant and is the principal lateral appendage of the stem. The leaves and stem together form the shoot.Foliage is a mass noun that refers to leaves collectively.

Typically a leaf is a thin, dorsiventrally flattened organ, borne above ground and specialized for photosynthesis. Most leaves have distinctive upper (adaxial) and lower (abaxial) surfaces that differ in colour, hairiness, the number of stomata (pores that intake and output gases) and other features. In most plant species, leaves are broad and flat. Such species are referred to as broad-leaved plants. Many gymnosperm species have thin needle-like leaves that can be advantageous in cold climates frequented by snow and frost. Leaves can also have other shapes and forms such as the scales in certain species of conifers. Some leaves are not above ground (such as bulb scales). Succulent plants often have thick juicy leaves, but some leaves are without major photosynthetic function and may be dead at maturity, as in some cataphylls, and spines). Furthermore, several kinds of leaf-like structures found in vascular plants are not totally homologous with them. Examples include flattened plant stems (called phylloclades and cladodes), and phyllodes (flattened leaf stems), both of which differ from leaves in their structure and origin. Many structures of non-vascular plants, and even of some lichens, which are not plants at all (in the sense of being members of the kingdom Plantae), look and function much like leaves. The primary site of photosynthesis in most leaves (palisade mesophyll) almost always occurs on the upper side of the blade or lamina of the leaf but in some species, including the mature foliage of Eucalyptus palisade occurs on both sides and the leaves are said to be isobilateral.

Leaf (Dutch band)

Leaf was a Dutch band from Utrecht. Their first single, Wonderwoman was released in October 2007.

Leaf was founded in 2005 by a group of students from the Rockacademie. The band plays acoustic pop songs and had quite a bit of success at the Dutch Popronde 2006. In the spring of 2007 they came out on top in a talent contest held by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. The band members are Annemarie Brohm, Tinus Konijnenburg, Ocker Gevaerts, Joni Scholten and Jeroen Blumers.

The band's independently produced album 'Life's a Beach' was received very well, and was later re-released on 16 November 2007 after securing a record label. One of the most popular singles on the album is Wonderwoman (a.k.a. "Why's my Life so Boring"), which went on to become a top 10 hit in the Dutch Top 40 charts. The song got an additional popularity boost due to it being used in the television show Koefnoen.

The band split up on 12 January 2009 due to creative differences within the group.

The Leaf Label

The Leaf Label is an independent record label based in Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Initially known as an electronic music label, releasing mainly instrumental music, the company's approach has broadened over the last few years and now features an eclectic range of artists, with a focus on strong live performers.

The Leaf Label was created in late 1994 by Tony Morley, at that time, Press Officer at 4AD in London, along with friend and co-conspirator Julian Carrera, then working for music press company Stone Immaculate. The pair ran the label as a hobby until the end of 1996, during which time they released a series of eight 12" singles, of mainly electronic music. The label debuted in early 1995 with a 12" release by Boymerang, aka Graham Sutton of the influential post-rock band Bark Psychosis, and early releases also included two volumes of the 'Invisible Soundtracks' series of EPs. Following his recovery from a serious road accident in September 2005, Morley decided to leave 4AD at the end of 1996, setting up his own independent promo company No9, and parting company with Carrera around the same time. The company's first office was in Battersea in South West London, later moving to larger premises in Brixton, South London.
