Burn (American band)

Burn is a New York hardcore band which began in 1989 playing what could be considered progressive hardcore music with introspective lyrics.

History

Burn released its first recording, a self-titled EP on Revelation Records in 1990. In 1992, the band separated, with vocalist Chaka Malik forming Orange 9mm, guitarist Gavin Van Vlack participating in Pry, Die 116, and The Big Collapse, and drummer Alan Cage in Quicksand. The band never officially disbanded, and after a stint of live performances, Burn was restarted with the addition of guitarist Vic DiCara (from 108 and Inside Out) and bassist Manny Carrero (from Glassjaw). In late 2001, Burn released a new EP on Equal Vision Records, Cleanse. In 2002, the band released a previously unreleased recording from 1992 on Revelation Records entitled, Last Great Sea, due to fans seeking out the tunes which had been circulating among fans from a demo.

Rede Bandeirantes

Rede Bandeirantes (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈʁedʒi bɐ̃dejˈɾɐ̃tʃis], Bandeirantes Network), officially nicknamed Band, is a television network from Brazil, based in São Paulo. Part of the Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicação, it aired for the first time in 1967. Currently, is the fourth TV network in Brazil by the ratings.

History

Rede Bandeirantes was founded on May 13, 1967, by João Saad, nephew of São Paulo state governor Ademar de Barros and owner of Rádio Bandeirantes. In 1969 the main TV building suffered a massive fire, which forced Saad to replace his broadcasting equipment with new ones. By 1972, TV Bandeirantes was the first Brazilian television network to fully broadcast in color, the same year that Rede Globo did the same. Later in the 1970s Bandeirantes became a national broadcasting network, helped partly by the hit Saturday afternoon program Clube do Bolinha, the Japan-theme program Japan Pop Show and a 2nd wave of drama programs which started in 1979.

Walter Clark took over the network in 1982 and remodeled the station's programming after Rede Globo, while the network's present logo debuted that same year, with Cyro Del Nero as its designer, the very logo was also shown nationwide given the fact that it - together with Rede Globo - had also at the same time began nationwide satellite broadcasting as well. This was also the same year that the network began a 18-year tradition of broadcasting the biannual electoral debates in the local levels.

27 (band)

27 is an American rock band from Cambridge, Massachusetts. 27 was formed by Maria Christopher, formerly of Dirt Merchants, and Ayal Naor in 1997. 27 is commonly categorized as a rock or indie rock band, but the genres lo-fi and emo have occasionally been used to describe them.

27 has toured extensively throughout Europe, North America, and Japan. In the Czech Republic, 27 opened for Robert Plant.

27 shares a relatively close relationship with the band Isis. Bryant Clifford Meyer, of Isis, co-wrote the 27 song "1001 Gods," Aaron Turner, of Isis, contributed guitars and vocals to the song "April," and Jeff Caxide, of Isis, contributed to the song "Try." Maria Christopher and Ayal Naor, of 27, contributed to the songs "Weight," "Carry," and "The Beginning and the End" which appeared on the Isis album Oceanic. Of these, the song "Weight" was featured on the television show Friday Night Lights in 2007. 27 also released an album on Hydra Head Records, which is owned by Aaron Turner of Isis.

Burn (Deep Purple song)

"Burn" is a song by British rock band Deep Purple. It was released on the album of the same name in 1974, and was the first song by the Mark III lineup. The song remained the band's concert opener for the next two years, taking over from "Highway Star". It opened Deep Purple's set on the California Jam two months after its release, on 6 April 1974.

After the Deep Purple 1984 reunion, the song was no longer played, as Ian Gillan, whom David Coverdale had replaced, was vocalist once more, and would not sing songs from the Coverdale era. The band did perform "Burn" live in 1991, during the time in which Gillan was briefly replaced by Joe Lynn Turner. When Gillan once more returned to the band in 1992, he again refused to perform Coverdale-era songs.

After Deep Purple's 1976 split-up, Coverdale formed his own band, Whitesnake, which over the years has featured Deep Purple members such as Jon Lord, Ian Paice and Don Airey, and has performed Coverdale-era Deep Purple songs such as "Burn", "Lady Double Dealer", "Lady Luck", "Mistreated", "Might Just Take Your Life", "Soldier of Fortune" and "Stormbringer". Glenn Hughes also features the song regularly in his live solo performances, as well as with his project, the supergroup Black Country Communion.

Burn (Havok album)

Burn is the first full-length album recorded by the thrash metal band, Havok. It was released in 2009 on Candlelight Records.

Background

Drum, bass and guitar recording started in mid-2008 in the basement of singer/guitarist David Sanchez's mother's house, in Lakewood, CO. It took roughly 6 months. Vocals were recorded later at Motaland Studios in Denver with engineer Bart McCrorey, who also mixed the album. The band did not work with a producer due to a limited budget of roughly $2,500.

Halsey Swain provided the artwork after an earlier version of the same concept by another artist was rejected.

The album consists of 5 tracks that had been previously released on various EPs or demos and 7 tracks that were original to the album. Bassist Justin Cantrell contributed "Morbid Symmetry" to the songwriting process, but left the band before recording began. This track was designated the "single" for the album, though no actual single was ever released. Jessie De Los Santos replaced him. Drummer Ryan Bloom left the band shortly before the album's release date and was not permanently replaced until 2010. His credit on the album reads, "drum tracks by Ryan Bloom," and he was the lyricist for "Ivory Tower."
