The Jupiter planetary post at the Shwedagon Pagoda, with the representative vehicle of the rat underneath

The Burmese zodiac is a traditional Burmese zodiac used in Burma.[1] incorporating knowledge from the skies and the animal kingdom. This ancient branch of astrology is called Mahabote (မဟာဘုတ်, coming from Pali maha bhuta မဟာဘူတ) meaning "little vessel" or "little key" and is believed to be a branch off from the larger Hindu astrological system. It is believed to have been introduced by Indian Brahmins.[2] Myanmar astrology is based on the number eight, representing cosmic balance. It is believed that the number eight reflects the harmony in energy, which keeps away any sort of imbalance.
