Montauk Branch

The Montauk Branch is a rail line owned and operated by the Long Island Rail Road in the U.S. state of New York. The branch runs the length of Long Island, 115 miles (185 km) from Long Island City on the west to Montauk on the east. However, in LIRR maps and schedules for public use the term Montauk Branch refers to the line east of Babylon; the line west of there is covered by Babylon Branch schedules to Jamaica.

Route description

The westernmost portion of the Montauk Branch in Queens, known as the "Lower Montauk", runs from Long Island City to Jamaica, mostly at street level with grade crossings. This portion had nine stations, four of which were closed by 1940. The remaining five stations (Richmond Hill, Glendale, Fresh Pond, Haberman, and Penny Bridge) were closed on March 13, 1998, due to low ridership and incompatibility with then-new C3 bi-level coach cars that can only use high platforms (only Richmond Hill had an actual platform, the other four stations' platforms were just pavement strips beside the tracks). In November 2012, passenger train service on the Lower Montauk ceased and full control was transferred to the New York and Atlantic Railway for freight operations.

    Cannonball (Supertramp song)

"Cannonball" is the opening track from Supertramp's 1985 album Brother Where You Bound. It was written and sung by keyboardist Rick Davies entirely in the chord of G minor. Davies stated in an interview "I did it simply to see if it could be done".

The lyrics to the song may have been seen as a veiled message to former member Roger Hodgson but Davies revealed in a French radio interview that they were inspired by a less than perfect concert promoter whom he refused to name.

The track became Supertramp's last US Top 40 single to date, peaking at number 28 on the Billboard singles charts in the spring of 1985. It also crossed over to the dance charts, peaking at number nine.

On the flip side of the 12-inch release is a 10-minute instrumental version of the song.

The Ariane was a French automobile made by Automobiles Ariane, Suresnes, Seine in 1907. It was a small friction-drive two-seater using a single-cylinder 6 hp engine. The friction discs were mounted at the rear axle.

    Ariane (apple)

'Ariane' is a modern cultivar of domesticated apple that was recently developed in France for scab resistance.

'Ariane' is mainly served as a dessert apple because of its mild pleasant flavour. The skin has an attractive combination of yellow and red colours. It was developed by Institut national de la recherche agronomique (INRA) by crossing a hybrid of 'Florina' x 'Prima' with pollen from 'Golden Delicious'.

Besides good resistance to scab, it does quite well with other apple diseases. Fruit keeps fresh three months or more. Fruit is ripening in late summer, and is delicious even if refrigerated for winter eating.
