Buckhead

Buckhead is an affluent uptown district of Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, comprising approximately the northern fifth of the city. Buckhead is a major commercial and financial center of the Southeast, and it is the third-largest business district in Atlanta, behind Downtown and Midtown. The district's highrise office buildings, hotels, and condominiums form a highly urbanized core along Peachtree Road. Surrounding this dense core are Buckhead's suburban neighborhoods, which feature large single-family homes situated among dense forests and rolling hills.

History

In 1838, Henry Irby purchased 202 1/2 acres surrounding the present intersection of Peachtree, Roswell, and West Paces Ferry roads from Daniel Johnson for $650. Irby subsequently established a general store and tavern at the northwest corner of the intersection. The name "Buckhead" comes from a story that Irby killed a large buck deer and placed the head in a prominent location. Prior to this, the settlement was called Irbyville. By the late 1800s, Buckhead had become a rural vacation spot for wealthy Atlantans. In the 1890s, Buckhead was rechristened Atlanta Heights but by the 1920s it was again "Buckhead".

Will Packer Productions

Will Packer Productions is an American film and television production company founded and operated by Will Packer.

History

Packer began his film career at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) with film director Rob Hardy when they started Rainforest Films in 1994. After producing profitable self-distributed independent films, Packer helped broker a major distribution deal with Sony in 2001. Packer produced several small budget, box office hits for Rainforest Films, including the box office number one films Stomp the Yard, Obsessed, Takers, Think Like a Man and Ride Along. In July 2013, Packer launched Will Packer Productions and signed a two-year deal with Universal Television to develop new projects for the studio. Later that year, he signed a three year "first-look" deal with Universal Pictures. Packer and Hardy mutually dissolved Rainforest Films in June 2014. It was reported that the last Will Packer-produced film that would appear under the Rainforest Film's banner was About Last Night. Think Like a Man Too, No Good Deed, The Wedding Ringer and Ride Along 2 (all Will Packer-produced films that were in development, filming or in post-production at the time of Rainforest Films dissolution) will fall under the new shingle Will Packer Productions.

Buckhead station

Buckhead is a train station in Atlanta, Georgia, serving the Red Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. This station is the first station only served by the Red Line. It is located in the Buckhead neighborhood in the median of State Route 400, a limited access highway, at Peachtree Road/State Route 141. The station is in easy walking distance of many offices, hotels and shopping centers, including Lenox Square, although the Lenox MARTA station provides easier access to the mall. The buc, a zero-fare bus service, also provides transportation to the surrounding area. The Buckhead Station also features Zipcars.

Station layout

History

Buckhead was opened on June 8, 1996, the same day as Medical Center Station and Dunwoody Station. When State Route 400 was being constructed south of the perimeter in 1993, space was left that allowed track to be laid in the median from Buckhead all the way to Medical Center. In 2014, new pedestrian bridges were built across both sides of State Route 400, allowing better access to the Stratford on the east and Tower Place on the west.
