The Life (advertisement)

The Life, also known as We Are ODST is a television and cinema advertisement launched in 2009 by Microsoft to promote the first person shooter Halo 3: ODST in the United States. The 150-second piece follows a young soldier through enlistment, training, and battle as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST), analogous to a paratrooper that drops from space to a battlefield. The Life was created by advertising agency T.A.G., an offshoot of McCann Erickson. Production of the commercial itself was handled by production company Morton/Jankel/Zander (MJZ). It was directed by Rupert Sanders, and post-production was conducted by Asylum. It was filmed in Hungary, just outside Budapest in a coal mine and abandoned factories to give the sequence an "Eastern Bloc" aesthetic. The commercial and its associated campaign, proved hugely successful; on the week of its launch, Halo 3: ODST became the top-selling game for the Xbox 360 worldwide, and over 2.5 million copies were sold within the first few weeks of release. The Life went on to win a number of honours from the advertising and entertainment industries, including two Clio Awards, a London International Advertising Award and several honours from the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, the most prestigious awards ceremony in the advertising industry.

The Life (musical)

The Life is a musical with a book by David Newman, Ira Gasman and Cy Coleman, music by Coleman, and lyrics by Gasman.

Based on an original idea by Gasman, the show explores the underbelly of Times Square's 42nd Street, inhabited by pimps and prostitutes, druggies and dealers, and runaways and street people in the era prior to its Disneyfication.

Productions

The show was first produced at the off-Broadway Westbeth Theatre, running from July 30, 1990 to August 16, 1990. Joe Layton directed and choreographed, with a cast that featured Chuck Cooper, Lillias White, and Mamie Duncan-Gibbs.

The Broadway production, directed by Michael Blakemore, opened on April 26, 1997 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, where it closed on June 7, 1998 after for 466 performances and 21 previews. Among a large cast were Pamela Isaacs, Chuck Cooper, Bellamy Young, Lillias White, and Sam Harris, winner of the first Star Search television competition in 1984. Choreography was by Joey McKneely, scenic design by Robin Wagner, costume design by Martin Pakledinaz, and lighting design by Richard Pilbrow.

In the Life

In the Life was a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) television newsmagazine, broadcast on PBS and produced by In The Life Media. It was created in 1991 by the Emmy Award-winning producer John Scagliotti. Premiering on June 9, 1992, it was the longest running LGBT television program in history.

In September 2012, In The Life Media announced that the December 2012 broadcast would be the last. ITLM said it would work with other organizations to create a web-based archive of historical videos documenting the LGBT rights movement, enhancing the organization's online presence and hopefully broadening its reach.

The series was regularly commentated by Harvey Fierstein from 2001 to 2004. Past hosts of the show include Kate Clinton and Katherine Linton. Guest hosts for the series have included Cherry Jones, Paris Barclay, Janeane Garofalo, Lesley Gore, Lea DeLaria, Madonna, Jade Esteban Estrada, Nathan Lane, Howard Dean, Gavin Newsom, Helen Thomas, Nancy Grace, RuPaul, Angela Lansbury, Jerry Herman, Carol Channing, Larry Kramer, Barbara Gittings, Lillian Faderman, Judy Shepard, Susan Sarandon, Billie-Jean King, Lily Tomlin, Melissa Etheridge, Esera Tuaolo, Martina Navratilova, Judith Light, Margaret Cho, Le Tigre, Lady Bunny, Wilson Cruz, Alan Cumming, Bill Brochtrup, Staceyann Chin and Lisa Leslie. In its 18th season, In the Life moved from a hosted format to a documentary style narrated by guest voice-overs.

Eye Legacy

Eye Legacy is the first posthumous release by the late American rapper and TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. The album is a compilation of songs either unreleased or featured on Supernova, remixed to feature new production as well as new guest singers and rappers.

Background

Originally set to be released October 28, 2008, the release date was pushed back to November 11, then to January 27, 2009. The album includes a bonus DVD of previously unreleased footage of Lisa. The album booklet also contains fan messages that were collected through the official Eye Legacy MySpace page. A percentage of the proceeds from the album sales went to the Lisa Lopes Foundation and her orphanage in Honduras. Guest appearances include: Chamillionaire, Bone Crusher, Missy Elliott, Bobby Valentino, TLC, Wanya Morris, Lil Mama, Reigndrop Lopes, Shamari Devoe, Free, Ryan Toby, Clyde McKnight, and Claudette Ortiz.Eye Legacy sold 2,550 copies in its first week of release, just barely missing the Billboard 200, however, it debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums, #44 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #30 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums. The album dropped to 18 in its second week on the Top Rap Albums chart, to 54 on the R&B albums chart and also out of the top 25 on the Independent chart. The following week the album dropped out of the Rap and Independent charts altogether and down to 99 on the R&B chart. It spent 6 weeks on the R&B albums chart, 4 on the Rap albums and 1 on the Independent.

In the Life (album)

In the Life is the fifth studio album by Japanese rock band B'z. The album debuted with 1,043,070 copies sold and sold 2,402,970 copies in total.

This album features a harder sound than its predecessors. Although synthesizers are still a large part of the band's sound, Tak's guitar starts to gain more presence.

Only one single was released, the power ballad "Alone."

10 Years in the Life

10 Years In the Life is a compilation album by electronica artist Brian Transeau, also known as BT. It was released in 2002. Disc 1 is a collection of rare songs, remixes and edits of Transeau's songs, showcasing Transeau's progression as an artist over the span of a decade. It notably includes his very first track ever recorded, "The Moment Of Truth". Disc 2 is a mix album and features remixes and rare tracks done by BT, including remixes of Madonna, DJ Rap, The Crystal Method and Deep Dish. Most of the rare tracks by BT are under the names of his many aliases. The booklet that comes with the CD features stories by BT about the making of each track on both discs, as well as a series of comments about his early career, remixing, scoring films and producing music in general.
