Broken (Seether song)

"Broken" is a song by post-grunge/alternative metal South-African band Seether featuring American singer Amy Lee, the lead singer of Evanescence and former girlfriend of Seether vocalist Shaun Morgan. It was recorded in 2004 and was later included in Disclaimer II. This version includes electric guitar and violins. It peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at No. 3 on the ARIA singles chart. It was later certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and Platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). It is the band's biggest pop hit and the band's only Top 40 hit, reaching #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Although, until the 2014 release of "Words as Weapons", it was often considered Seether's most popular track and the only song to enter and crossover to the pop and adult contemporary charts, it is not their highest-charting single on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and Modern Rock Tracks chart where a few singles, such as "Fine Again" and "Fake It", charted higher. Despite this, it was the most played song on most rock radio formats due to the pop success of the song. In addition, it still charted high peaking #9 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and #4 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Broken (House)

"Broken" is the joint title for the first and second episodes of the sixth season of the television series House. It is a two-part season premiere, being first broadcast on the Fox network on September 21, 2009. The narrative follows series protagonist Dr, Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) as he overcomes his vicodin addiction and psychological problems at Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital.

Receiving season-high ratings, the episodes garnered positive reviews from critics. The performance of Hugh Laurie was also applauded.

Plot

House awakens in the Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital after suffering through the painful effects of Vicodin withdrawal. He asks to leave knowing that they legally cannot keep him because he voluntarily committed himself. However, Dr. Nolan (Andre Braugher) refuses to sign a recommendation to the board of medicine saying he is able to return to work. House resigns himself to stay at the hospital and get his clearance. He meets his manic-depressive roommate, Alvie (Lin-Manuel Miranda), and begrudgingly participates in group therapy with Dr. Beasley. He also meets and is intrigued by Lydia (Franka Potente), a woman who plays piano for her sister-in-law Annie (Ana Lenchantin), an unresponsive patient in the ward who was a cellist.

Vitalogy

Vitalogy is the third studio album by the American rock band Pearl Jam, released on November 22, 1994, through Epic Records. Pearl Jam wrote and recorded Vitalogy while touring behind its previous album Vs. (1993). The music on the record was more diverse than previous releases, and consists of aggressive rock songs, ballads and other elements making this Pearl Jam's first experimental album.

The album was first released on vinyl, followed by a release on CD and cassette two weeks later on December 6, 1994. The LP sold 34,000 copies in its first week of release, and until Jack White's 2014 album Lazaretto it held the record for most vinyl sales in one week since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. Upon its CD release, Vitalogy became the second-fastest selling album in history, only behind the band's previous release Vs., selling 877,000 copies in its first week. The album has been certified five times platinum by the RIAA in the United States.

Recording

For its third album, Pearl Jam again worked with producer Brendan O'Brien. The band wrote many of the songs during soundchecks on its Vs. Tour and the majority of the album's tracks were recorded during breaks on the tour. The first session took place late in 1993 in New Orleans, Louisiana, where the band recorded "Tremor Christ" and "Nothingman". The rest of the material was written and recorded in 1994 in sessions in Seattle, Washington and Atlanta, Georgia, with the band finishing the album at Bad Animals Studio in Seattle after the tour's completion. "Immortality" was written in April 1994 when the band was on tour in Atlanta. Sources state that most of the album was completed by early 1994, but that either a forced delay by Epic, or the band's battle with ticket vendor Ticketmaster, were to blame for the delay.

Bug (Starship Troopers)

The Bugs are an extraterrestrial race in the novel Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein, its film adaptation (and its first and second sequels, an animated film and spin-off television series), sometimes also referred to as the Arachnids, although this is a misnomer, as the aliens are not related to Earth arachnids.

The Bugs in the film differ considerably from those in the novel, which calls the Bugs "Pseudo-Arachnids". Meanwhile, Mongoose Publishing's Starship Troopers: The Miniatures Game refers to them as the Arachnid Empire or the Bug Empire. In the third film in the franchise, the bugs are referred to as "Archie", similar to nicknames given to Germans ("Jerry") and the Viet Cong ("Charlie") in their respective wars. The novel's Bugs are highly susceptible to radiation and chemical attacks, and the Mobile Infantry frequently seals their escape holes.

Colonization

In the films, the Arachnid Quarantine Zone consists of many star systems colonized by the Arachnids. At some point "plasma" bugs developed the ability to fire spores into orbit. Utilizing a bioship star drive, the spores can travel to other systems and impact with planets, thus spreading Arachnid eggs and creating a new generation of bugs.
