Brine (brand)

Warrior Sports, Inc., doing business as Brine, is a sporting goods manufacturer in the United States. It manufactures lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, and field hockey equipment. It markets its products under its own brand as well as In The Crease for goals and goal accessories. The company was founded by W.H. Brine in 1922 as the W.H. Brine Company. It was privately owned by the Brine family and named Brine, Inc. before it was acquired by New Balance on August 4, 2006.

History

Foundation

Brine was founded in 1922 by W.H. Brine as the W.H. Brine Company. It started as a small sports equipment and uniform company. They sold to private schools and regional camps, quickly growing to a major manufacturer of lacrosse and soccer equipment.

1950s

During the 1950s Brine focused on lacrosse. Lacrosse sticks were all wooden at the time and the only company producing them was Chisholm Lacrosse which was located on the St. Regis Reservation, Cornwall Island, Canada. With the encouragement and assistance from A. MacDonald Murphy of Governor Dummer Academy, Ferris Thomsen, coach of Penn and Princeton and Mort LaPointe of Bowdoin College, the Brine family began to explore the possibilities of manufacturing lacrosse sticks.

Brine

Brine is a solution of salt (usually sodium chloride) in water. In different contexts, brine may refer to salt solutions ranging from about 3.5% (a typical concentration of seawater, or the lower end of solutions used for brining foods) up to about 26% (a typical saturated solution, depending on temperature). It is held that 0 °F (−17.78 °C) was initially set as the zero point in the Fahrenheit temperature scale, as it was the coldest temperature that Daniel G. Fahrenheit could reliably reproduce by freezing brine.

Properties

At 100 °C (373.15 K, 212 °F), saturated sodium chloride brine is about 28% salt by weight i.e. 39.12 g salt dissolves in 100 mL of water at 100 °C. At 0 °C (273.15 K, 32 °F), brine can only hold about 26% salt.

Brine (food)

Brine is a mixture of water and salt used to preserve or season vegetables, fruit, fish and meat in a process known as brining. In this case the clear brine may be flavored with spices, caramel, vinegar, etc.

Brine is also commonly used to age brined cheeses, such as halloumi and feta, see also "Cheese brining".

It is also used for salting or pickling foodstuffs, as a means of preserving them (or increasing taste).

Brand, Nuth

Brand is a hamlet in the municipality of Nuth in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. It is one of the so-called Bovengehuchten, or Upper Hamlets, of Nuth. Brand is located south of the stream Platsbeek.

The hamlet consists of five houses along the Branterweg. This road connects the hamlets Tervoorst and Helle. Some houses, including a farm named Op genne Brant, are constructed with timber framing. Brand is often mistakenly regarded as part of the nearby hamlet Terstraten. Brand got its own town sign in 2003.
