Bridget Jones

Bridget Jones is a franchise based on the fictional character with the same name, Bridget Jones. British writer Helen Fielding started her Bridget Jones's Diary column in The Independent in 1995, while chronicling the life of Bridget Jones as a thirtysomething single woman in London as she tries to make sense of life and love with the help of a surrogate "urban family" of friends in the 1990s. The column lampooned the obsession of women with women's magazines such as Cosmopolitan and wider social trends in Britain at the time. Helen Fielding published the novelisation of the column in 1996, followed by a sequel in 1999 called Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Both novels were adapted for the big screen in 2001 and 2004, starring Renée Zellweger as Bridget Jones, and Hugh Grant and Colin Firth as the men in her life: Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy. After Fielding had ceased to work for The Daily Telegraph in late 1998, the feature began again in The Independent on 4 August 2005 and finished in June 2006. Helen Fielding released a third novel in 2013, "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy", which is set 18 years later.

Bridget Jones Nelson

Bridget Jones Nelson (born September 24, 1964), also credited as simply Bridget Jones or Bridget Nelson, is an American screenwriter and performer for Mystery Science Theater 3000. She worked as a contributing writer for the show before becoming a full-time writer in season 4.

On camera she first appeared in episode 316, "Gamera vs. Zigra", as Helen, a young Coke-loving Japanese girl, though she had previously been heard as one of the several personages of Magic Voice. She has played characters as diverse as Mr. B Natural and Lisa Loeb but is probably best known for two roles: Nuveena, Girl of the Future, Mike's singing love interest in episodes 524, "12 to the Moon", and 614, "San Francisco International", and Flavia, an evil Roman matron and Pearl Forrester's nemesis in a multi-episode arc in season eight. In 2007, Jones joined Michael J. Nelson on an audio commentary for Nelson's RiffTrax service. It was the pilot episode for Grey's Anatomy they riffed on and was released June 11, 2007.

Bridget Jones's Diary (film)

Bridget Jones's Diary is a 2001 British romantic comedy film directed by Sharon Maguire. It is based on Helen Fielding's novel of the same name which is a reinterpretation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The adaptation stars Renée Zellweger as Bridget, Hugh Grant as the caddish Daniel Cleaver and Colin Firth as Bridget's "true love", Mark Darcy. Production began in May 2000 and ended in August 2000, and took place largely on location in London and the Home Counties. Bridget Jones's Diary premiered on 4 April 2001 in the UK and was released to theatres on 13 April 2001 simultaneously in the UK and in the US. The film received positive reviews and was a commercial success. Zellweger was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film. A sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, was released in 2004.

Plot

Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) is frustrated: she is in her early thirties, single, very accident-prone and worried about her weight. She works in publicity at a book publishing company in London where her main focus is fantasising about her boss, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant). At a New Year party hosted by her parents, she re-encounters Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), the barrister son of her parents' friends. They had known each other as children. After their initial encounter, Mark thinks that Bridget is a fool and vulgar and Bridget thinks that he is arrogant and rude, and is disgusted by his novelty Christmas jumper. After overhearing Mark grumble to his mother about her attempts to set him up with Bridget: "A verbally incontinent spinster who smokes like a chimney, drinks like a fish and dresses like her mother", she decides to turn her life around. She starts her own diary, which covers all her attempts to stop smoking, lose weight and find her Mr. Right.

Bridget Jones's Diary

Bridget Jones's Diary is a 1996 novel by Helen Fielding. Written in the form of a personal diary, the novel chronicles a year in the life of Bridget Jones, a thirty-something single working woman living in London. She writes about her career, self-image, vices, family, friends, and romantic relationships.

By 2006, the book had sold over two million copies worldwide. A sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, was published in 1999. Another sequel, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, came out in 2013.

Plot

Bridget Jones' Diary (musical)

Bridget Jones's Diary is a musical based on the award-winning book and film of the same name. The show has been in development since 2009 and has had several workshop readings. A West End production is anticipated, although no date has been set.

Development

In early 2009, the production was first performed to a very small audience. As there was no music written for the show at the time, the performance consisted of only dialogue and a few spoken lyrics. The production featured a limited cast including Harry Enfield and British comedienne Victoria Wood, each playing several parts. Although the script, penned by author of the original books, Helen Fielding, was considered very "raw" and incomplete in some places, the performance was praised by its audience. Representatives for the show's production company, Working Title, confirmed that Fielding had officially signed contracts releasing the rights for a musical production to go ahead.

In early 2010, it was confirmed that Tony award-winning English theatre and film director and producer Stephen Daldry, and Peter Darling would serve as director and choreographer respectively. The pair had previously worked together on the successful West End and Broadway productions of Billy Elliot. Lily Allen and Greg Kurstin then wrote the music and lyrics for the show. In April 2014 Allen cast doubt that the musical would be happening in an interview with Popjustice "It's finished and it's brilliant. But I don't know if it will ever see the light of day.".
