Bridge (1949 film)

Bridge (simplified Chinese: 桥; traditional Chinese: 橋; pinyin: Qiáo) (also known as The Bridge) is a 1949 Chinese war film made shortly after the Communist revolution in China; as such, it is considered the first film completed after the founding of the People's Republic of China. As a film, Bridge set many of the themes that would dominate the Socialist cinema of post-1949 China, including the glorification of the worker and the conversion of the intellectual to Communism.

Plot

During the Chinese Civil War, a railroad factory is commissioned by the Communist army to repair a bridge. Led by a skeptical engineer who does not believe the bridge can be completed in time, the factory workers lack enthusiasm and morale. The project is galvanized, however, by the work of Liang Ruisheng (Wang Jiayi), who inspires his fellow workers to complete the project for the war effort. In the process, even the engineer is converted.

A bicyclic molecule is a molecule that features just two rings. Bicyclic molecules occur widely in organic and inorganic compounds. Among organic compounds, the two rings can be fully carbocyclic (all atoms in each ring all carbons), or one or both can be heterocyclic (at least one atom in the rings not a carbon atom). Jake (rescue dog)

Jake (1995 – July 25, 2007) was a well-known American black labrador who served as a search and rescue dog following the September 11 attacks and Hurricane Katrina. Jake served as a rescue dog from 1997 until his retirement because of cancer in 2006.

Early life

Jake was adopted when he was 10 months old by his owner, Mary Flood. Jake had been found abandoned on the streets with several injuries, including a dislocated hip and a broken leg.

Career

Jake's final owner, Mary Flood, is a member of Utah Task Force 1.Utah Task Force 1 is a federal search and rescue team trained to respond to disasters. Following his recovery from his injuries, Flood helped to train Jake to become a federal "U.S. government certified" rescue dog. There are fewer than 200 of these dogs, who are trained to respond within 24 hours to disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, wilderness, water rescue, terrorist attacks, or avalanches. Jake's owner later commented, "...against all odds he became a world-class rescue dog."

Jake 2.0

Jake 2.0 is an American science fiction television series originally broadcast on UPN in 2003. The series was canceled on January 14, 2004 due to low ratings, leaving four episodes unaired in the United States. In the United Kingdom, all the episodes aired on Sky1. The series later aired in syndication on HDNet and the Sci Fi Channel.

The series revolves around a computer expert, Jake Foley, who works for the U.S. government's National Security Agency (NSA) and was accidentally infected by nanobots which give him superhuman powers. He is able to control technology with his brain, making him "the ultimate human upgrade" according to the show's introduction.

Jake2 is a Java port of the GPL release of the Quake II game engine.

History

The 0.9.1 version of Jake2 was shown by the JOGL team for JavaOne 2004, to present an example of Java-OpenGL interoperability. Jake2 has since been used by Sun as an example of Java Web Start capabilities for games distribution over the internet.

As of August 2012, development is still active in the LWJake2 fork, which removed JOGL/JOAL in favor of the LWJGL.

As of October 2012, a fork using the current version of Java OpenGL and Java OpenAL has been made available on a git repository. The game can be played online, launched as an Applet or Webstart. The new enhancements allows Jake2 to be run on mobile platforms as well, due to utilizing Jogl's OpenGL fixed function emulation via OpenGL ES2, or directly via OpenGL ES1. Joal enhancements further allows audio output on mobile devices. The fork has been updated in June 2013 for the latest Jogl release.
