Brickell

Brickell (/ˈbrɪkəl/ BRIK-əl) is an urban neighborhood of Greater Downtown Miami, Florida, United States. Directly south of the historic CBD, Brickell is Miami and South Florida's major financial district.

Brickell was settled in the modern era in the mid-1800s by early pioneers, growing to become Miami's "Millionaire's Row" in the early 1900s after the construction of lavish mansions along Brickell Avenue by Mary Brickell. By the 1970s, office towers, hotels and apartments began replacing the historic mansions. Today, Brickell has grown to overtake the city's historic central business district to the north, as one of the largest financial districts in the United States. With a fast-growing residential population, Brickell is one of Miami's fastest-growing as well as its most dense neighborhood, with a 2010 population of about 31,000.

Brickell has a large concentration of wealthy Argentine, Colombian, Cuban, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan residents. Many work in the neighborhood's financial and trade sectors, or live in Brickell part-time.

1010 Brickell

1010 Brickell is a residential high-rise under construction in the Brickell neighborhood of Miami, Florida. It is located behind an office building at 1000 Brickell Avenue, adjacent to the Tenth Street Metromover station. Construction began in 2014 and required the demolition of an existing parking garage. The building is expected to rise about 533 feet (162 m) with 47 floors and nearly 400 units. The 5,600 cubic yard mat pour was completed on April 4, 2015.

500 Brickell is a residential complex in the Brickell neighborhood of Miami, Florida, United States. The complex consists of two condominium towers, 500 Brickell West Tower and 500 Brickell East Tower. The two buildings were designed as twin towers, and rise 426 feet (130 meters), with 42 floors. Both skyscrapers were designed by the Arquitectonica architectural firm, and the complex was developed by Thomas Kramer's Portofino Group in partnership with the Related Group of Florida. The towers' construction began in April 2005, was topped out in mid-2007 and was completed in 2008. From 2012 to 2014 a smaller building named myBrickell was built directly to the west of 500 Brickell, on the same lot. It was the first high-rise building built in Miami after the Great Recession, and sold out in 2014.

Design

500 Brickell was originally designed to emulate a giant arch. Both towers are connected by a 10-story base, and the top floors of the two towers are also connected by a large white roof. The roof was designed with a circular hole to direct light into the courtyard formed between the two buildings, in which a large pool will be located.

Pop (U2 album)

Pop is the ninth studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was produced by Flood, Howie B, and Steve Osborne, and was released on 3 March 1997 on Island Records. The album was a continuation of the band's 1990s musical reinvention, as they incorporated alternative rock, techno, dance, and electronica influences into their sound. Pop employed a variety of production techniques that were relatively new to U2, including sampling, loops, programmed drum machines, and sequencing.

Recording sessions began in 1995 with various record producers, including Nellee Hooper, Flood, Howie B, and Osborne, who were introducing the band to various electronica influences. At the time, drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. was inactive due to a back injury, prompting the other band members to take different approaches to songwriting. Upon Mullen's return, the band began re-working much of their material but ultimately struggled to complete songs. After the band allowed manager Paul McGuinness to book their upcoming 1997 PopMart Tour before the record was completed, they felt rushed into delivering it. Even after delaying the album's release date from the 1996 Christmas and holiday season to March 1997, U2 ran out of time in the studio, working up to the last minute to complete songs.

Miami station (Amtrak)

Miami is a train station in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on the border of Miami and Hialeah. It serves Amtrak, the national passenger rail service of the United States, and is the southern end of the Silver Meteor and Silver Star trains. It is scheduled to be replaced by Miami Central Station in summer 2016.

The Miami station was built on the site of the former Seaboard Air Line Railroad southern coach yards, to which Amtrak moved in 1977 when it abandoned the original Seaboard station at 2210 NW 7th Avenue in Allapattah, two miles north of downtown. Constructed in 1978, the building is one of many built under Amtrak's Standard Stations Program, an attempt to create a unified brand and identity for the company's passenger facilities in its early years. It is considered a Type 300A station, meaning it was designed to accommodate at least 300 passengers at the busiest hour of the day. Within the Amtrak system, it is similar to the station in Minneapolis-St. Paul, also built in 1978.

Miami (James Gang album)

Miami is the seventh album by James Gang, released in 1974.

This album is the last with lead guitarist Tommy Bolin before he left to join Deep Purple. The front cover is a black copy of their second album, James Gang Rides Again.

Critical reception

Writing for Allmusic, critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote of the album "Again, there was a noticeable lack of memorable songs, but Miami is worthwhile for guitar aficionados."
