Brian Glynn

Brian Thomas Glynn (born November 23, 1967) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played six seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). A second round selection of the Calgary Flames, 37th overall at the 1986 NHL Entry Draft, Glynn played with the Flames, Minnesota North Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators, Vancouver Canucks and Hartford Whalers during his NHL career before playing one season in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) for Kölner Haie.

Playing career

Glynn was born in Iserlohn, West Germany while his father served in the armed forces but grew up in Saskatchewan. He played junior hockey between 1983 and 1987 with the Melville Millionaires of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) and Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He was selected in the second round, 37th overall, by the Calgary Flames at the 1986 NHL Entry Draft.

Starting his professional career in 1987–88, Glynn made his NHL debut on October 8, 1987, and scored a goal against goaltender Glen Hanlon of the Detroit Red Wings. He appeared in 67 games as a rookie and scored 19 points. His play diminished in 1988–89, resulting in Glynn appearing in only nine games with the Flames and being demoted to the Salt Lake Golden Eagles of the International Hockey League (IHL). He spent virtually the entire 1989–90 season with Salt Lake where he scored 61 points in 80 games. Glynn was named a first team all-start and won the Governor's Trophy as the IHL's top defenceman.

Brian Glynn (cricketer)

Brian Thomas Glynn (27 April 1940 – 27 September 2007) was an English cricketer. Glynn was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born at Birmingham, Warwickshire.

Glynn made two first-class appearances for Warwickshire, both against Scotland, with one match in 1959 and the other 1961. In his first match, Scotland won the toss and elected to bat first, making 262 all out. Warwickshire responded in their first-innings by making 180/1 declared. Scotland then made 128/6 declared in their second-innings, leaving Warwickshire with a target of 211 for victory. Warwickshire were dismissed for 157 in their chase, with Glynn ending the innings not out on 6. In his second match, Warwickshire won the toss and elected to field first, with Scotland making 142 all out in their first-innings. Warwickshire then made 180 all out in their first-innings, with Glynn being dismissed for a duck by Jimmy Allan. Scotland then made 346/8 declared in their second-innings, leaving Warwickshire with a target of 309 for victory. Warwickshire narrowly fell short of their target, reaching 298/8, with Glynn scoring 7 runs before he was dismissed by Ronald Chisholm, with the match ending as a draw.

Glynn

Glynn (from Irish: an Gleann, meaning "the valley") is a small village and civil parish in the Larne Borough Council area of County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It lies a short distance south of Larne, on the shore of Larne Lough. Glynn had a population of 2,027 people in the 2011 Census.

History

The Church of Gluaire is supposed to have been founded by St Patrick in 435 A.D. The ruins of an old stone church still stand within the village boundary. Prior to baronial division, the county of Antrim was divided into the districts of North Clandeboye and Glynns (Glynnes). The area was a vicarage in the Diocese of Connor and ecclesiastical province of Armagh and was a gift of the Marquess of Donegall.

The village is then mentioned in a grant from King James I to Arthur Lord Chichester, Baron of Belfast, of his estates in Antrim, Down and Carrickfergus. This grant was dated 20 November 1620. In a later grant from King Charles II to Edward, Viscount Chichester, Glynn was mentioned as being part of the territory of Magheramorne.
