Signed to Career Records (a division of Arista Nashville) as a solo artist in 1995, James charted three singles and released a self-titled debut album that year. He returned to Arista as a recording artist in 2002, releasing two more singles.
Since the early 2000s, James has become known primarily as a songwriter for other country and pop music artists. Among his compositions is Carrie Underwood's 2006 Number One hit "Jesus, Take the Wheel," which received Grammy Awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song. His writers' credits also include Number One hits for Jessica Andrews, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Rodney Atkins, and Jason Aldean.
Brett James Cornelius was born June 5, 1968 in Columbia, Missouri to the late Carolyn and Dr.Sam Cornelius, graduating from Christian Heritage Academy high-school in Del City, Oklahoma in 1986. He attended Baylor University, pledged Sigma Chi Fraternity, and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. After attending medical school for a time in the early 90's, James began his musical career as a recording artist on Career Records, a subsidiary of Arista Nashville, in 1995. That year, he released his self-titled debut album, which included the charting singles "Female Bonding," "If I Could See Love" and "Worth the Fall." Also included on this album was "Wake Up and Smell the Whiskey", which was co-written and later released as a single by Dean Miller in 1997.
Brett James is the self-titled debut album of American country music singer-songwriter Brett James. It was released on September 12, 1995 via Arista Nashville's Career Records division. The singles "Female Bonding", "If I Could See Love" and "Worth the Fall" all entered the Hot Country Songs charts.
An uncredited review from Allmusic gave Brett James three stars out of five, calling it "a hard-rocking set of original songs that owe a great debt to honky tonk and traditional country." Richard McVey II of Country Standard Time described the album as "pretty much your standard country record with average material and average vocals that leads to an average review of an average artist."
Brett James (born 15 December 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League.
In 2015, James was inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame.
James joined Norwood from Kersbrook from the Hills Football League in 1990. In the 1992 AFL Draft Brett James was selected by Collingwood at pick 31, and would be joined by Norwood teammate Scott Burns who was selected at pick 90.
James joined Collingwood in 1994, a year after he was drafted. James would only play three seasons with Collingwood, often as a bench warmer and was traded to the Crows for Jonathon Ross.
James was picked up by the Crows to add depth to their list, often coming off the bench or playing Back Pocket. James played 17 games in his first season, including coming off the bench in the 1997 AFL Grand Final. After winning the Grand Final for the Crows, James and teammate Aaron Keating completed the unsual feat of winning 2 premierships within in a week as he was also a part of the Norwood team that won the 1997 SANFL flag. James then developed into a valuable player for Adelaide as he was apart of the 1998 premiership with the Crows. In 1999 James played every game but only played 14 games in 2000 and was delisted.
A long time ago in a far off place
I got caught up in a pretty place
Diamond eyes that stole my heart away
I was young and so naive
I never thought that you'd ever leave
But you packed your bags and left for Santa Fe
And now you're at my door again
Askin' me to take you in
But darlin' this time things won't work that way
Many tears ago, I thought I loved you
Many tears ago, I thought my heart could never break
But oh, the pain you put me through
Was more than I could take
So take your memory and go
'Cause that was many tears ago
Time goes by and feeling fade
But I still have my lonely days
When I can't help myself for feelin' blue
'Cause Lord knows I've tried to forget
But sometimes I still lie in bed
Close my eyes and all I see is you
But you never felt the way I did
So I tell myself again
Just what tonight I'm tellin' you
Chorus
Many tears ago
