Family name affixes are a clue for family name etymology and can sometimes determine the ethnic origin of a person. This is a partial list of affixes.

Prefixes

Ski (driving stunt)

Skiing is an automotive driving stunt where the car is driven while balanced only on two wheels, either the pair on the driver side or on the passenger side.

The stunt is generally performed by driving one pair of wheels up on a ramp to lift one side of the car. Alternately, the stunt can be done in a vehicle with a high center of gravity (such as a 4x4 or SUV) by turning sharply or at speed. This technique is more dangerous because there is a strong possibility of the vehicle tipping completely over. Another technique is to let some air out of the tires that will be on the ground, so that the car can tip easier, as well as keep its balance better. Once up on two wheels, the car has to be balanced by steering (much as one would when riding a bicycle) which makes it necessary to drive more or less in a straight line. The vehicle used must also be fitted with a lockable differential (common on 4x4s).

Famous uses

The stunt has been used in many movies and television series, including Knight Rider,The Dukes of Hazzard, and two of the James Bond movies. The British stunt driver Russ Swift performs this maneuver as part of his shows and has achieved it in a wide range of vehicles including trucks. His son Paul also uses it in his displays and once rolled a Ford Fiesta whilst attempting to drive around Cardiff's Millennium Stadium at the Wales Rally GB in 2005.

Ski (soda)

Ski is a citrus soda made from orange and lemon juices manufactured by the Double Cola Company.

History

The Double Cola Company of Chattanooga, Tennessee originally got the formulated Ski from Byron Clarson in 1956 who owned a Double Cola-related bottling company in Richland Center, Wisconsin. and trademarked the soda in 1958.

In 1999, the Ski can and logo was redesigned with the phrase "Taste the Wake."

In 2009, the Ski can and logo were redesigned, an online vote was posted on the official Ski website to vote on a selected logo. Along with the redesigned cans, Cherry Ski was re-branded as "Ski InfraRED".

In 2009 the selected can design hits markets with the phrase "Real Lemon, Real Orange, Real Good!"

Distribution

Ski is bottled in several bottling facilities across the United States. Ski is distributed in Alabama, Alaska, California, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Breathing

Breathing is the process that moves air in and out of the lungs, or oxygen through other respiratory organs such as gills. For organisms with lungs, breathing is also called ventilation, which includes both inhalation and exhalation. Breathing is one part of physiological respiration required to sustain life.Aerobic organisms of birds, mammals, and reptiles—require oxygen to release energy via cellular respiration, in the form of the metabolism of energy-rich molecules such as glucose. Breathing is only one of the processes that deliver oxygen to where it is needed in the body and remove carbon dioxide. Another important process involves the movement of blood by the circulatory system.Gas exchange occurs in the pulmonary alveoli by passive diffusion of gases between the alveolar gas and the blood in lung capillaries. Once these dissolved gases are in the blood, the heart powers their flow around the body (via the circulatory system). The medical term for normal relaxed breathing is eupnea.

Breathing (memorial sculpture)

Breathing is the name of a memorial sculpture situated on the roof of the Peel Wing of BBC Broadcasting House, in London. The sculpture commemorates journalists and associated staff who have been killed whilst carrying out their work. It consists of a 10-metre (32 ft) high glass and steel column, with a torch-like, inverted spire shape, decorated with words. It also features a poem by James Fenton. At night the sculpture gently glows, then at 10pm every evening (coinciding with the broadcast of the BBC ten o'clock news) the memorial shines a beam of light into the sky for 30 minutes, which reaches up to 900m.

The memorial was officially unveiled on 16 June 2008 by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. The sculpture is by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, working in collaboration with the Broadcasting House architect Sir Richard MacCormac and his team at MJP Architects., Modus Operandi public art consultants and the engineers Whitby Bird & Partners. It was commissioned and selected as a result of an international competition for the BBC's public art scheme. The shape of the sculpture is inspired by the spire of the adjoining All Souls Church, and the radio mast on the roof of Broadcasting House.

Breathing (Triptykon song)

"Breathing" is a single by Swiss extreme metal band Triptykon. Released on 17 March 2014 via Prowling Death Records/Century Media Records, it served as a teaser for their then-upcoming second full-length album, Melana Chasmata. It contains two tracks that eventually would appear in the album, "Breathing" and "Boleskine House".

Content

Boleskine House is the name given to a manor in Scotland where famous occultist and founder of Thelema Aleister Crowley lived from 1899 to 1913.
