Break Every Rule

Break Every Rule is the sixth solo album by Tina Turner, released on Capitol Records in 1986. It was the follow-up to Turner's globally successful comeback album, Private Dancer, released two years earlier.

Composition

The original A-side of the vinyl album was entirely produced by Graham Lyle and Terry Britten, the team behind Turner's 1984 hit single "What's Love Got To Do With It", while side B included tracks produced by Bryan Adams, Bob Clearmountain, Mark Knopfler and Rupert Hine. Out of the album's eleven tracks, eight were released as singles, either in Europe or the U.S. or both; "Typical Male" (U.S. #2) featuring Phil Collins on drums, "What You Get Is What You See" (U.S. #13) with Eric Clapton on guitars, "Two People" (Spain #1, U.S. R&B #18), David Bowie's "Girls" (Poland #11), "Back Where You Started" (U.S. Rock #9) co-written and produced by Bryan Adams, "Afterglow" (U.S. Dance #2) featuring Steve Winwood on keyboards, "Break Every Rule" (Poland #15) co-written and produced by Rupert Hine and "Paradise Is Here" (Ireland #24).

Break Every Rule (song)

"Break Every Rule" is a song by recording artist Tina Turner. It was the title track to both Turner's 1986 album of the same name and the name of her 1987-88 "Break Every Rule World Tour". It was released as a single in early 1987 to support the album and the tour. The song found limited success on the US and UK singles charts. The music video shows Turner performing on stage as well as behind-the-scenes footage of Turner and her band from the tour. The country-flavored song was written by British composer and singer Rupert Hine and his then girlfriend Jeanette Obstoj, who had previously composed "I Might Have Been Queen" which was featured on the Private Dancer album. The "Break Every Rule" 12" single included both an Extended Dance Mix and an Extended Rock Mix.
