Canada (ⁱ/ˈkænədə/; French: [ka.na.da]) is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres (3.85 million square miles), making it the world's second-largest country by total area and the fourth-largest country by land area. Canada's border with the United States is the world's longest land border. Canada is sparsely populated, the majority of its land territory being dominated by forest and tundra and the Rocky Mountains; about four-fifths of the country's population of 35 million people live near the southern border. The majority of Canada has a cold or severely cold winter climate, but southerly areas are warm in summer.

The land now called Canada has been inhabited for millennia by various Aboriginal peoples. Beginning in the 15th century, British and French colonies were established on the Atlantic coast, with the first establishment of a region called "Canada" occurring in 1537. As a consequence of various conflicts, the United Kingdom gained and lost territories within British North America until left, in the late 18th century, with what mostly geographically comprises Canada today. Pursuant to the British North America Act, on July 1, 1867, the colonies of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia joined to form the autonomous federal Dominion of Canada. This began an accretion of provinces and territories to the self-governing Dominion to the present ten provinces and three territories forming modern Canada. In 1931, Canada achieved near total independence from the United Kingdom with the Statute of Westminster 1931, and full sovereignty was attained when the Canada Act 1982 removed the last remaining ties of legal dependence on the British parliament.

Brampton (electoral district)

Brampton was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the Canadian House of Commons from 1988 to 1997. This riding was created in 1987, from Brampton—Georgetown riding, and was abolished in 1996, when it was redistributed between Brampton Centre and Brampton West—Mississauga ridings.

It consisted of that part of the City of Brampton lying west of Dixie Road.

It was briefly a riding represented in the Ontario Legislative Assembly from 1975 to 1985. It was represented by Premier Bill Davis.

Brampton (Chestertown, Maryland)

Brampton is a historic home located at Chestertown, Kent County, Maryland. It is a transitional Greek Revival / Italianate-influenced dwelling built about 1860. The main section of the house is a three story structure, constructed of brick with a symmetrical five-bay-wide facade and a depth of two bays. A two story frame wing extends from the rear.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Brampton is a village in the English county of Suffolk, located approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) north east of Halesworth, 5 miles (8.0 km) south of Beccles and 9 miles (14 km) south west of Lowestoft. The mid-2005 population estimate for Brampton with Stoven parish was 460.Stoven is located just to the east, Uggeshall to the south-east and Shadingfield to the north.

The village is served by Brampton railway station, around 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of the village, on the Ipswich-Lowestoft East Suffolk Line. The A145 road divides the village and passes the village church which is dedicated to St Peter. Areas of housing, including at Brampton Street, are clustered on both sides of the road throughout the parish area.

Brampton Primary School serves the village and the surrounding area.

The Latitude music festival takes place at Henham Park 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Brampton.

Brampton Hall is a listed country house built in 1794 of red brick for the Leman family who had long associations in the area. The previous Brampton Hall burned down in 1733. A 16th century farmhouse was built on the same site, known as Brampton Old Hall. Both buildings are Grade II listed.

Ontario

Ontario (ⁱ/ɒnˈtɛərioʊ/) is one of the ten provinces of Canada, located in east-central Canada. It is Canada's most populous province by a large margin, accounting for nearly 40 percent of all Canadians, and is the second largest province in total area. Ontario is fourth largest in total area when the territories of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are included. It is home to the nation's capital city, Ottawa, and the nation's most populous city, Toronto.

Ontario is bordered by the province of Manitoba to the west, Hudson Bay and James Bay to the north, and Quebec to the east, and to the south by the US states of (from west to east) Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. All of Ontario's 2,700 km (1,678 mi) border with the United States follows inland waterways: from the west at Lake of the Woods, eastward along the major rivers and lakes of the Great Lakes/Saint Lawrence River drainage system. These are the Rainy River, the Pigeon River, Lake Superior, the St. Marys River, Lake Huron, the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, the Detroit River, Lake Erie, the Niagara River, Lake Ontario and along the St. Lawrence River from Kingston, Ontario, to the Quebec boundary just east of Cornwall, Ontario.

This is a list of past and present Senators of Canada representing the province of Ontario. Ontario has had an allocation of 24 senators since the time of Confederation. The province is also one of four regional Senate divisions under Section 26 of the Constitution Act that allows for the expansion of the Senate by one or two senators per region.

Ontario silver mine

The Ontario silver mine is a mine near Park City, Utah. It was purchased by George Hearst through R C Chambers from prospectors for $27,000 in 1872.

Hearst and his business partners James Ben Ali Haggin and Lloyd Tevis owned this mine and constructed the necessary infrastructure to make it productive, including hoists and stamp mill. The mine was not profitable for its first three years. According to legend, expenses of development substantially drained Hearst's financial resources. As a result of his straitened circumstances, Hearst sold his home and horses, and even dismissed his servants and enrolled his son William Randolph Hearst in public school. Chambers, who had been retained as manager, brought the bonanza ore body into production by the late 1870s. It eventually produced fifty million dollars worth of silver and lead.

By the time of Hearst's death in 1891, the Ontario mine had paid him more than $12 million in dividends. This was only one of the four big mines he had brought in in the West, including the Ophir on the Comstock Lode, the Homestake Mine (Nevada), and the Anaconda Copper Mine (Montana). The mine also made manager Chambers one of Utah's Bonanza Kings.
