Bond Street

Bond Street is a street in the West End of London, connecting Piccadilly in the south to Oxford Street in the north. The street, consisting of two sections, has been a popular shopping area since the 18th century and is the home of many fashion outlets that sell prestigious and expensive items. The southern section is named Old Bond Street and the longer northern section is named New Bond Street—this distinction, however, is not generally made in everyday usage.

The street was originally fields surrounding Clarendon House on Piccadilly, which were redeveloped by Sir Thomas Bond. It was built up in the 1720s, and by the end of the 18th century had become a popular place for the upper class residents of Mayfair to socialise. This led to prestigious and expensive shops being established along the street. The street declined as a centre of social activity in the 19th century, but it has held its reputation as a fashionable place for retail, and is home to the auction houses Sotheby's and Bonhams (formerly Phillips) and the department stores Fenwick and Tiffany's. It is one of the most expensive and sought after strips of real estate in Europe.

Bond Street is a 1948 British portmanteau drama film directed by Gordon Parry and based on a story by Terence Rattigan. It stars Jean Kent, Roland Young, Kathleen Harrison and Derek Farr. The film depicts a bride's dress, veil, pearls and flowers purchased in London's Bond Street—and the secret story behind each item.

Bond Street is an international (non-US) brand of cigarettes produced by Philip Morris International.

History

Formerly called "Old Bond Street", the history of this brand goes back to year 1902. Philip Morris, the founder of the company, had a boutique on Bond Street in London. And 1902 was the year when one of the greatest admirers of the company, King Albert of Belgium, presented the boutique with the title of the Royal Tobacconist.

In the mid-nineties there was a process of re-branding - new, fresh design and hard box. In the 2006 a "premium" version, "Bond Street Special" was launched.
