Bona Dea

Bona Dea ("The Good Goddess") was a divinity in ancient Roman religion. She was associated with chastity and fertility in women, healing, and the protection of the Roman state and people. According to Roman literary sources, she was brought from Magna Graecia at some time during the early or middle Republic, and was given her own state cult on the Aventine Hill.

Her rites allowed women the use of strong wine and blood-sacrifice, things otherwise forbidden them by Roman tradition. Men were barred from her mysteries and the possession of her true name. Given that male authors had limited knowledge of her rites and attributes, ancient speculations about her identity abound, among them that she was an aspect of Terra, Ops, the Magna Mater, or Ceres, or a Latin form of Damia. Most often, she was identified as the wife, sister or daughter of the god Faunus, thus an equivalent or aspect of the nature-goddess Fauna, who could prophesy the fates of women.

The goddess had two annual festivals. One was held at her Aventine temple; the other was hosted by the wife of Rome's senior annual magistrate, for an invited group of elite matrons and female attendants. The latter festival came to scandalous prominence in 62 BC, when the politician Clodius Pulcher was tried for his intrusion on the rites, allegedly bent on the seduction of Julius Caesar's wife, whom Caesar later divorced because "Caesar's wife must be above suspicion". The rites remained a subject of male curiosity and speculation, both religious and prurient.

Drug Enforcement Administration

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is a United States federal law enforcement agency under the U.S. Department of Justice, tasked with combating drug smuggling and use within the United States. Not only is the DEA the lead agency for domestic enforcement of the Controlled Substances Act, sharing concurrent jurisdiction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), it also has sole responsibility for coordinating and pursuing U.S. drug investigations abroad.

History and mandate

The Drug Enforcement Administration was established on July 1, 1973, by Reorganization Plan No. 2 of 1973, signed by President Richard Nixon on July 28. It proposed the creation of a single federal agency to enforce the federal drug laws as well as consolidate and coordinate the government's drug control activities. Congress accepted the proposal, as they were concerned with the growing availability of drugs. As a result, the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD), the Office of Drug Abuse Law Enforcement (ODALE); approximately 600 Special Agents of the Bureau of Customs, Customs Agency Service; and, other federal offices merged to create the DEA.

Dea (album)

Dea is the first full-length album by the Russian Power Metal band Catharsis. It was released in 2001 by Irond. The album was the most commercially successful Russian metal release of 2001. It was released internationally in 2002 by Hammer Müzik. In 2004, the album, together with the Febris Erotica EP, was re-released by Irond.

Think Global (formal name Development Education Association, also known as DEA) is a British charity which "works to educate and engage people about global issues". It was founded in 1993 by a group of major charities including CAFOD, Oxfam, ActionAid, Save the Children and Christian Aid, and evolved from NADEC, the National Association for Development Education Centres; in January 2011 it adopted the "working name" Think Global to reflect a broadening of its interests.

Bona (film)

Bona is a 1980 Filipino drama film that was submitted for entry at the Metro Manila Film Festival. The character of Bona was played by acclaimed actress Nora Aunor, and the film was directed by Lino Brocka.

Bona was shown at the 1981 Cannes International Filmfest as an entry to the Director's Fortnight, which marked Lino Brocka's second appearance at the said Film Festival. Bona gave Nora Aunor her second Gawad Urian best actress trophy.

Reviews

Bona was considered to be one of the Philippines greatest movies, in fact it was the only Filipino Film cited as one of "The Best 100 Films in the World" by the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, USA (1997). Bona was seen and screened in different film festivals around the world and received mixed reviews. According to the New York Times review, Bona is chiefly interesting as an example of Philippine film making and for its glimpses of life in the neighborhood where Bona and Gardo live. It was also screened at the 47th Viennale: Vienna International Film Festival, Barbara Wurm, Berlin- and Vienna-based film historian, critic, and programmer, describes the Philippine Superstar as “the awesome Nora Aunor.”

Annaba /ˈænəbə/,US /əˈnɑːbə/ (Arabic: عنابة‎, ‘Annābah, formerly Bône or Bona, historically Hippo or Hippo Regius) is a city in the north-eastern corner of Algeria near the Seybouse River. It is located in Annaba Province. With a population of 257,359 (2008), it is the fourth largest city in Algeria. It is a leading industrial centre in eastern Algeria. Most of the people call this city بلد ألعنب Balad al-Unnâb, i.e. the city of jujubes, because of the abundance of this fruit in the area.

Annaba is a coastal city and has undergone significant growth. Annaba has a metropolitan area with a higher population density than the other metropolises of the Algerian coastline such as Oran and the capital Algiers. Much of eastern and southern Algeria seeks the services, equipment, and infrastructure of the city. Economically, it is the centre for various dynamic activities, such as industry, transport, finance and tourism.

History

The vicinity of Annaba has yielded evidence of very early human occupation at Ain el Hanech, near Saïda (c. 200,000 B.C.), including artifacts that show remarkable tool-making craftsmanship. According to some sources, prehistoric Algeria was the site of the most advanced development of flake-tool techniques in the Middle Early Stone Age (Middle Paleolithic).
