Explosive detection is a non-destructive inspection process to determine whether a container contains explosive material. Explosive detection is commonly used at airports, ports and for border control.
The use of Colorimetric test kits for explosive detection is one of the oldest, simplest, and most widely used methods for the detection of explosives. Colorimetric detection of explosives involves applying a chemical reagent to an unknown material or sample and observing a color reaction. Common color reactions are known and indicate to the user if there is an explosive material present and in many cases the group of explosive from which the material is derived. The major groups of explosives are nitroaromatic explosives, nitrate ester and nitramine explosives, improvised explosives not containing nitro groups which includes inorganic nitrate based explosives, chlorate based explosives, and peroxide based explosives. Some companies, such as Field Forensics, are able to detect explosives at trace, non-visible, levels with simple disposable kits like ELITE™. Through automation, companies such as DetectaChem have been able to progress colorimetrics in that it isn't necessary to have a human operator interpret a color result. Detectors such as the Seeker and SEEKERe are examples of automated colorimetric systems.

It was one of the greatest domestic film successes in Norway for many years, and is considered to be the start of the Norwegian cinemas bloom that occurred in the 2000s.
In electronics, a detector is an older term for an electronic component in a radio receiver that recovers information contained in a modulated radio wave. The term dates from the first three decades of radio (1886-1916). Unlike modern radio stations which transmit sound (an audio signal) on the radio carrier wave, the first radio transmitters transmitted information by wireless telegraphy, using different length pulses of radio waves to spell out text messages in Morse code. So early radio receivers did not have to extract a sound wave from the incoming radio signal, but only "detect" the presence or absence of the radio signal, to produce clicks in the receiver's earphones representing the Morse code symbols. The device that did this was called a detector. A variety of different detector devices, such as the coherer, electrolytic detector, and magnetic detector, were used during the wireless telegraphy era.
After sound (AM) transmission took over around 1920, the term evolved to mean a demodulator, a nonlinear rectifier (usually a crystal diode or a vacuum tube) which extracted the audio signal from the radio frequency carrier wave. The term bomb is not usually applied to explosive devices used for civilian purposes such as construction or mining, although the people using the devices may sometimes refer to them as a "bomb". The military use of the term "bomb", or more specifically aerial bomb action, typically refers to airdropped, unpowered explosive weapons most commonly used by air forces and naval aviation. The series has often featured male characters with slightly effeminate characteristics, as well as female characters with slightly tomboyish, but still feminine, characteristics. This trend has generally increased as the series evolved. These characters are usually teenagers, which some critics have interpreted as an effort on the part of the designers to ensure the players identify with them. At the same time, some female characters have been increasingly designed to wear very revealing outfits. Square Enix has stated that a more rugged looking hero had been considered for Final Fantasy XII but had ultimately been scrapped in favor of Vaan, another effeminate protagonist. The developers cited scenaristic reasons and target demographic considerations to explain their choice. For Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix settled on a female main character, described as a "female version of Cloud from FFVII." This aspect of Final Fantasy can also be seen in Sora, the protagonist of Kingdom Hearts, a crossover series featuring Final Fantasy and Disney characters.

The book won the 2013 Newbery Honor and Sibert Medal from the American Library Association. This book follows the process of building the nuclear bomb by the discovery of nuclear fission by German scientist Otto Hahn in December 17, 1938.
The book traces the origin and development of the first atomic bomb. It follows the development of the atomic bomb from the discovery of nuclear fission through the Nazi heavy water manufacture to the Manhattan Project and the attempts of the Soviet Union to steal the bomb design, finishing at the dropping of the bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (Missouri) in 2013 called it the best nonfiction book and stated that it was a '... most distinguished informational ...' book, while Kirkus Review said 'the book is a true spy thriller...It takes a lot of work to make a complicated subject clear and exciting, and from his prodigious research and storytelling skill, Sheinkin has created a nonfiction story young people will want to read.'
