Bole Medhanealem

Bole Medhanealem, or simply Bole (Amharic: ቦሌ^?), is one of the 10 subcities of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, so named after the Medhanealem (Saviour of the World) Cathedral there. As of 2011 its population was of 328,900.

Geography

The district is located in the southeastern suburb of the city. It borders with the districts of Yeka, Kirkos, Nifas Silk-Lafto and Akaky Kaliti.

Boleč

Boleč (Serbian Cyrillic: Болеч) is a suburban settlement of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is located in the municipality of Grocka.

Location

Boleč is located 17 km east of the Belgrade, near the road of Smederevski put which connects Belgrade and Smederevo. One of the branches of the Bolečica river flows through the settlement and givs its name to it (its derived from Serbian words for bol (pain) and leči(ti) (to cure), so it means the water that heals the pain).

Population

For decades, population of Boleč was growing slowly but steadily. Since the mid-1970s however, the settlement (classified as the rural one, the village) is experiencing accelerated growth which continues until today, with large number of refugees from Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo settling in this area. Originally south of the Smederevski put, as the settlement was growing it reached the road and connected to other surrounding villages (Ritopek, Vinča, Leštane), so today it makes one built-up area all the way to Belgrade. Bo Le

Bole (Po-le; simplified Chinese: 伯乐; traditional Chinese: 伯樂; pinyin: Bólè; Wade–Giles: Po²-le⁴) or Bo Le was a horse tamer in Spring and Autumn period, and the honorific name of Sun Yang (simplified Chinese: 孙阳; traditional Chinese: 孫陽; pinyin: Sūn Yáng; Wade–Giles: Sun¹ Yang²), who was a retainer of Duke Mu of Qin (r. 659-621 BCE) and a famous judge of horses. Bole was the legendary inventor of equine physiognomy ("judging a horse's qualities from appearance").

Names

Sun Yang, with the Chinese surname Sun 孫 and given name Yang 陽 (of Yin and yang), was renowned for his extraordinary understanding of horses. Sun Yang was given the Chinese honorific name Bole, and is also known Sun Bole (Henry 1987:28).

Bo 伯 means "eldest" and le 樂 means "pleasure; happiness"–was a mythological figure who first tamed horses. Bole's name was given to a star, from which he supervised the winged tianma "heavenly horses". Proposed locations of this Chinese star Bole are with Zaofu 造父 (the legendary charioteer, see below) in Zeta Cephei within Cepheus (Chinese astronomy) (Book of Jin, Spring 1988:198), or in the constellation Scorpius (Chinese astronomy) (Harrist 1997:135-6).
