Bob Weir

Robert Hall "Bob" Weir (WEER; born October 16, 1947) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, most recognized as a founding member of the Grateful Dead. After the Grateful Dead disbanded in 1995, Weir performed with The Other Ones, later known as The Dead, together with other former members of the Grateful Dead. Weir also founded and played in several other bands during and after his career with the Grateful Dead, including Kingfish, the Bob Weir Band, Bobby and the Midnites, Scaring the Children, RatDog, Furthur, co-led by former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, and Dead & Company, formed with former Grateful Dead drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart.

During his career with the Grateful Dead, Weir played mostly rhythm guitar and sang many of the band's rock-n-roll tunes. As a guitarist, he is known for his unique style of complex voiceleading, bringing unusual depth and a new approach to the role of rhythm guitar expression.

Early life

Weir was born in San Francisco, California to John (Jack) Parber and a fellow college student who later gave him up, and was raised by his adoptive parents, Frederic Utter and Eleanor Cramer Weir, in the suburb of Atherton. He began playing guitar at age thirteen after less successful experimentation with the piano and the trumpet. He had trouble in school because of undiagnosed dyslexia and he was expelled from nearly every school he attended, including The Menlo School in Atherton, California and Fountain Valley School in Colorado. At Fountain Valley he met John Perry Barlow, who later wrote the lyrics to a number of Grateful Dead songs.

Robert Weir (athlete)

Robert Weir (born 4 February 1961 in Birmingham) is a retired English discus thrower, who is a twelve-time national champion. Weir attended Handsworth Grammar School in Birmingham.

His personal best throw was 65.08 metres, achieved in August 2000 in Bedford. This places him fifth among English discus throwers, behind Perriss Wilkins, Richard Slaney, Glen Smith and Carl Myerscough. Weir also competed at the 1997 World's Strongest Man competition, finishing 3rd in a qualifying group of six, only being beaten by Jouko Ahola and Flemming Rasmussen who went on to finish as champion and runner-up respectively in the 1997 final .

    One More Saturday Night

    by: Bob Weir

I went down to the mountain, I was drinking some wine,
Looked up in the heavens lord I saw a mighty sign,
Writtn fire across the heaven, plain as black and
    white;
Get prepared, theres gonna be a party tonight.
    Uhuh, hey! saturday night!
Yeh, uhuh one more saturday night,
    Hey saturday night!
Everybodys dancin down the local armory
With a basement full of dynamite and live artillery.
    The temperature keeps risin, everybody gittin high;
Come the rockin stroke of midnite, the whole place
    gonna fly.
    Uhuh, hey! saturday night!
Yeh, uhuh one more saturday night,
    Hey saturday night!
Turn on channel six, the president comes on the news,
Says, I get no satisfaction, thats why I sing the
    blues.
His wife say dont get crazy, lord, you know just what
    to do,
Crank up that old victrola, put on them rockin shoes.
    Uhuh, hey! saturday night!
Yeh, uhuh one more saturday night,
    Hey saturday night!
Then God way up in heaven, for whatever it was worth,
Thought he'd have a big old party, thought he'd call it
    planet earth.
Dont worry about tomorrow, lord, you'll know it when it
    comes,
When the rock and roll music meets the risin' shinin'
