Bob Fry

Robert Moellerig Fry (born November 11, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is a former American football offensive lineman in the National Football League for the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Kentucky and was drafted in the third round of the 1953 NFL Draft.

Early years

Fry attended Elder High School before moving on to the University of Kentucky, where he would be coached by Paul "Bear" Bryant.

He was a part of the freshman basketball team that included Cliff Hagan and Frank Ramsey.

In 1950, he was named the starting offensive end as a sophomore and contributed to Kentucky's best season under Bryant, finishing with an 11-1 record and a 13-7 upset in the Sugar Bowl over the eventual national champions the University of Oklahoma, also ending the Sooners' 31-game winning streak.

As a senior he was moved to the offensive tackle position and earned his second straight third-team All-SEC honors.

Professional career

Los Angeles Rams

Fry was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the third round (36th overall) of the 1953 NFL Draft. He became a starter at left tackle as a rookie, before spending the next two years out of football while serving his military service.

Bob Fry (golfer)

Robert Nelson Fry (November 29, 1922 – January 12, 1993) was an American professional golfer instrumental in the development of golf in the Iowa and Illinois area.

Background

Born in Keokuk, Iowa, Fry began his golf career as a caddy at the age of 9.

The first documentation of Fry's significant amateur play was in 1942 when the Iowa Open and Iowa Amateur were combined into a 54-hole tournament at the Sunnyside course in Waterloo. He came from nowhere and finished fifth in the field. Starting with a mediocre 77, he went through the last 36 holes with a 71-69. He came back in 1947, after 5 years in the military, to be runner up in the Iowa Amateur bowing in match play to Fred Gordon of Belmond 3 and 2.

During 1943 and 1944, Sgt. Bob Fry served as a navigator in the 69th Squadron, 433rd Troop Carrier Group in New Guinea and Guam under Commanding Officer Cecil B. Guile, Lt. Col., Air Corps. 433rd TC was the largest troop carrier group in the world. According to the group's journal,
