Soybean

The soybean in the U.S., also called the soya bean in Europe (Glycine max), is a species of legume native to East Asia, widely grown for its edible bean which has numerous uses. The plant is classed as an oilseed rather than a pulse by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Fat-free (defatted) soybean meal is a significant and cheap source of protein for animal feeds and many packaged meals; soy vegetable oil is another product of processing the soybean crop. For example, soybean products such as textured vegetable protein (TVP) are ingredients in many meat and dairy analogues. Soybeans produce significantly more protein per acre than most other uses of land.

Traditional nonfermented food uses of soybeans include soy milk, from which tofu and tofu skin are made. Fermented foods include soy sauce, fermented bean paste, natto, and tempeh, among others. The oil is used in many industrial applications. The main producers of soy are the United States (36%), Brazil (36%), Argentina (18%), China (5%) and India (4%). The beans contain significant amounts of phytic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, and isoflavones.

Soy is a 1973 album by Julio Iglesias. A U.S. version was released in 1980.It was released on the Columbia label.

Soy (Alejandra Guzmán album)

Soy (Eng. I Am) is the title of the tenth studio album released by Mexican singer Alejandra Guzmán. This album was the first produced by Desmond Child and was the winner of the 2002 Latin Grammy Award for "Best Rock Solo Vocal Album", being the first win and, to date, the only Latin Grammy won by the singer.

The album yielded four singles: "De Verdad", "Diablo", "Volveré a Amar" and the Robbie Williams's original "Quiero Vivir". The track "Vagabundo Corazón" features Joe Perry and Steven Tyler from the rock band Aerosmith. The last track, "Labios de Fuego" was featured on the soundtrack of the Mexican film "Dame Tu Cuerpo".

Soy was certified gold in Mexico.

Blinded (original French title: A ciegas) is a 1997 romantic thriller directed and written by Daniel Calparsoro. The film's director Daniel Calparsoro was nominated for the Golden Lion award at the 1997 Venice International Film Festival, but lost to Takeshi Kitano's romantic film Hana-bi.

Plot

Marrubi (Najwa Nimri) works at a dry cleaners and must endure the unwanted advances of her boss Clemente (Ramón Barea). However, Marrubi is also a terrorist in the ETA with her lover, Mikel (Alfredo Villa). They target a wealthy businessman for a heist intending to kill him in the process. When Marrubi deliberately shoots her colleague instead of the intended victim, both she and Mikel are on the run. At Mikel's country house, matters are complicated by another one of their group who insists Marrubi be killed for her betrayal. She manages to escape with her son but is left to depend on Clemente who takes her into his mansion that he shares with his submissive wife Paquita (Marivi Bilbao). She must survive Clemente's continual advances while remaining wanted by the authorities.

Blinded (2006 film)

Blinded (2006) is a Grenadian feature film about domestic violence directed by Anderson Quarless and starring Deleon Walters and Tahira Carter. It was the first full-length film entirely produced in Grenada.

Plot

Clara (Tahira Carter) meets John (Deleon Walters) at a particularly vulnerable time in her life. She is "blinded" by love and he becomes her world. The intense relationship then becomes violent and Clara is forced to take drastic action to protect herself and their son Chris.

Cast and crew information

This film has an entire local cast and crew, and was filmed in a various locations throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique including beaches, waterfalls and other scenic locations.

Distribution

The movie premiered to Grenadian audiences on January 28, 2006 at the Grenada Trade Center and February 4, 2006 at St. George's University.

Reception

The movie received international recognition when it was selected for the 2007 New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
