Blind Pilot is an American indie folk band based in Portland, Oregon. They have released two albums and one EP since 2008.
On July 15, 2008, Blind Pilot released their debut CD 3 Rounds and a Sound on Expunged Records. "Go On, Say It", was chosen to be a Single of the Week on July 7, 2008 on Apple Inc.'s iTunes Store, and for the week of July 26 the record reached number 13 on the Billboard Top Digital Albums chart.Allmusic gave the album 3.5/5 stars.
Originally a duo between Israel Nebeker and Ryan Dobrowski, the band added four touring members in February 2009. On December 29 of that year, the band released an iTunes only live EP. This EP featured a cover of Gillian Welch's "Look at Miss Ohio". The EP also included new versions of previously released songs, along with a new song, titled "Get It Out". The EP was mixed and recorded by Tucker Martine.
Blind Pilot released their second album, We Are The Tide, on September 13, 2011 as a sextet. The album featured the song "Get It Out" from the previous EP. Allmusic praised the additional members, whom they said "add bigger, brighter colors to the mix" in a 4.5-star review. Popmatters, however, stated that though "[a]ll these players add texture, ... mostly they serve to strengthen a foundation for Nebeker’s voice to layer" in a 6/10-star review.
Our time is ever on the road,
The ride is in what we make.
I walked a year to hear a howl in this give and take.
But hear it this way- hear it this way.
Alright!
And war is in our hearts,
And blood is in the land we love.
We keep breaking our backs,
Hoping that it gives enough.
Oh! But what do you need?
What do you need?
Oh man, it's ladders to the sky,
Building up a high-rise.
Oh man, we won't last long,
But we're giving it our best try.
Don't you know you're alive? (ahhh)
You know you're alive.
And none of us stay, (ahhh)
The day we're born 'till then we-
And tonight I'm in love with everybody on the city bus.
I feel the push and pull,
Keep saying that it doesn't mean much.
Oh! But what do you see?
What do you see?
And everybody on the street is singing like it's Sunday.
But we keep inside and our looks stay at bay.
Ahhh, ahhh,
And we don't know what's left,
But we feel it's coming back soon.
And so we're standing in the street staring at a blood-red moon.
We are the tide. (ahhh)
We are the tide, and none of us stay, (ahhh)
