Björn Borg

Björn Rune Borg (Swedish pronunciation: [bjœːɳ bɔrj]; born 6 June 1956) is a former world No. 1 tennis player from Sweden widely considered to be one of the greatest in tennis history. Between 1974 and 1981 he became the first male professional to win 11 Grand Slam singles titles: six at the French Open and five consecutive at Wimbledon. He also won three year-end championships and 15 Grand Prix Super Series titles.

Borg set numerous Open Era records that still stand, including winning 41% of the Grand Slam singles tournaments he entered and 90% of those matches, winning both the French Open and Wimbledon for three consecutive years, and winning three Grand Slams without losing a set. Also, his total career match win rate of 82.7% remains the best of the era.

A teenage sensation at the start of his career, Borg's unprecedented stardom and consistent success helped propel the rising popularity of tennis during the 1970s. As a result, the professional tour became more lucrative, and in 1979 he was the first player to earn more than one million dollars in prize money in a single season. He also made millions in endorsements throughout his career. The downside, however, was the constant attention and pressure eventually caused burnout and his retirement at the age of 26.

Björn Borg AB (formerly named World Brand Management (WBM)) develops and runs the fashion brand "Björn Borg". The company has stores in seven European countries, with Sweden and the Netherlands being the most important ones. New markets are Germany and the United Kingdom.

WBM has since 1997 an exclusive trademarks license for the name Björn Borg, which gives them the rights to produce, market and sell Björn Borg products in all countries. It bought full rights to the trademark at the end of 2006. The main products are in the category of underclothes, shoes, purses, glasses and perfume.

The biggest Björn Borg product is underclothes. The Björn Borg brand is named after the former professional tennis player of the same name.

Björn Borg (swimmer)

Björn Borg (14 November 1919 – 13 April 2009) was a Swedish backstroke and freestyle swimmer who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics.

He was born in Örby and died in Zürich, Switzerland.

In 1936 he was a member of the Swedish relay team which finished eight in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay competition. In the 100 metre backstroke event he was eliminated in the semi-finals.

Borg won the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal in 1938 and the 400 m and 1500 m freestyle events at 1938 European Swimming Championships.

He represented the club Norrköpings KK.
