Bingo (Scrabble)

Bingo is a slang term used in Scrabble for a play using all of one's tiles. A player who does this receives 50 points in addition to what the word would normally score. Mattel, the game's manufacturer in the United Kingdom, use the term bonus to describe such a word. In French, it is called a scrab.

Bingos are an important part of achieving high scores in Scrabble. While many beginners rarely play even one during a game, experts frequently score three or more. Much advanced strategy revolves around maximizing one's chance of playing of a bingo: blank tiles are hoarded, unwelcome letters are played even for a low score, and flexible letter groups such as AEINST (a six-letter "stem" that anagrams with 24 letters — all but Q and Y — to form nearly 70 bingos) are aimed for until a bingo is formed. This strategy is often at direct odds with that of placing high-value letters on premium squares.

A common misconception is that the bonus received for using all seven tiles is multiplied if a double-word or triple-word score is used. This is not the case: a 9-point word using seven tiles played across a triple-word score is worth 77 points (3 times 9 plus 50 points for the bonus).

Bingo (Better Call Saul)

"Bingo" is the seventh episode of the first season of the AMC television series Better Call Saul, the spinoff series of Breaking Bad. The episode aired on March 16, 2015.

Plot

At the police station, Jimmy and Mike return the notepad to Detective Abbasi, claiming they found it in the parking lot. Despite Abbasi's accusations against Mike, his partner Detective Sanders privately assures Mike that he has little to fear. Jimmy finds Chuck standing outside his home, claiming to build up tolerance to electromagnetic fields outdoors as he feels useless. Jimmy stores some legal documents at Chuck's house with an ulterior motive for him to get involved in cases. Jimmy brings Kim to an office suite he is considering for his practice and asks her to join him as his partner. She turns him down due to her loyalty to Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill.

Later, Kim meets with the Kettlemans and proposes a plea deal that involves a sixteen month prison sentence, returning the $1.6 million in embezzled money, and an admission of guilt. Since losing a trial would mean a thirty year prison sentence for Craig, she recommends this course of action. However, Betsy flatly rejects the deal, maintaining her husband's innocence and denying that there is any money to return. They fire Kim and seek out Jimmy for legal counsel. Jimmy initially urges them to accept Kim's deal, but Betsy blackmails him by pointing out that their "retainer" paid to Jimmy would implicate him taking a bribe. While picking up records from HHM, Jimmy discovers that Kim has been demoted as a result of losing the Kettlemans as clients.

Scrabble (game show)

Scrabble is an American television game show that was based on the Scrabble board game. The show was co-produced by Exposure Unlimited and Reg Grundy Productions. It ran from July 2, 1984 to March 23, 1990, and again from January 18 to June 11, 1993, both runs on NBC. A total of 1,335 episodes were produced from both editions; Chuck Woolery hosted both versions of the series. Jay Stewart was the announcer for the first year and was replaced by Charlie Tuna in the summer of 1985, who announced for the remainder of the original version and the entirety of the 1993 revival.

Game play

All words used in the game were between five and nine letters in length. For each word, Woolery gave a clue that often involved a pun or play on words (e.g.,"Some people want him to get off their case" for "detective"). Viewers could win a Scrabble T-shirt by submitting a word and clue and having them selected for use in the show's opening title sequence.

Crossword Round

The first round of every game was the Crossword round, in which two contestants competed to guess words as they were laid out on a computer-generated Scrabble board. Originally, two new contestants played each Crossword, with the winner advancing to the Scrabble Sprint to face the reigning champion (see below). On September 29, 1986, as part of a broader format change, episodes were re-structured to include two Crosswords. The first Crossword was played between the show's reigning champion and a challenger, and the second Crossword was played between two new contestants.
