Bill Richardson

William Blaine "Bill" Richardson III (born November 15, 1947) is an American politician who was 30th Governor of New Mexico, from 2003 to 2011. He was U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Energy Secretary in the Clinton administration and has also served as a U.S. Congressman, chairman of the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and chairman of the Democratic Governors Association. In December 2008, he was nominated for the cabinet-level position of Commerce Secretary in the first Obama administration but withdrew a month later as he was investigated for possibly improper business dealings in New Mexico. Although the investigation was later dropped, it was seen to have damaged Richardson's career, as his second and final term as New Mexico governor concluded.

Early life and education

Bill Richardson was born in Pasadena, California. His father, William Blaine Richardson, Jr. (1891-1972), who was half Anglo-American and half Mexican, was an American Citibank executive who grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and lived and worked in Mexico City. His mother, María Luisa López-Collada Márquez (1914-2011), was the Mexican-born daughter of a Spanish father from Villaviciosa, Asturias and a Mexican mother, and had been his father's secretary. Richardson's father was born on a ship heading towards Nicaragua. Just before Bill Richardson was born, his father sent his mother to California to give birth because, as Richardson explained, "My father had a complex about not having been born in the United States." Richardson, a U.S. citizen by birthright, spent his childhood in Mexico City and was raised Roman Catholic. When Richardson was 13, his parents sent him to Massachusetts to attend a preparatory school, Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts, where he played baseball as a pitcher. He entered Tufts University in 1966 where he continued to play baseball.

Bill Richardson is a UK bodybuilding champion. He has entered a number of bodybuilding competitions in his career, winning several of them, including the Mr. Universe (amateur) competition in 1980.

Richardson's eldest child is Amanda (born 1968), and his other children include Sean, Clifton, Mark and Elizabeth.

Bill Richardson (footballer, born 1943)

William "Bill" Richardson (born 25 October 1943) is an English former professional footballer who played as a winger in the Football League for Mansfield Town and York City, in non-League football for South Shields and was on the books of Sunderland without making a league appearance.

Bill Richardson (born 1955 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian radio broadcaster and author.

Richardson received his B.A. from the University of Winnipeg in 1976. After spending a year in Montpellier, he moved to Vancouver, where he completed a Master of Library Science at the University of British Columbia.

He has been a broadcaster on CBC Radio One, beginning in 1992 as a regular contributor and guest host on Vicki Gabereau's show. When Gabereau left to host a television show on CTV, Richardson moved over to CBC Radio Two to host As You Like It, a classical music request show. In 1997 he returned to CBC Radio One to become host of Richardson's Roundup.

He began hosting a new show, Bunny Watson, in 2004, and was replaced as host of The Roundup by Tetsuro Shigematsu. During the CBC staff lockout of 2005, he noted in the CBC Unplugged staff podcast that he has spent his entire time as a CBC host on contract, rather than as a permanent employee. CBC's labour troubles resulted in his return to the air via reruns of The Roundup. He was also a frequent guest host of Sounds Like Canada, moderated CBC's annual Canada Reads from 2003 to 2007, and was the host of Saturday Afternoon at the Opera and Sunday Afternoon in Concert until 2013.

William "Bill" Richardson (14 February 1908 – August 1985) was an English footballer who played as a centre half.

Biography

Richardson was born in Great Bridge, Tipton and as a youngster played football for Greets Green Boys, Greets Green Prims and Great Bridge Celtic. He turned professional in August 1926, when he joined West Bromwich Albion, and made his league debut in December 1928 in a Division Two match away at Middlesbrough. In 1930–31 he helped the club to achieve promotion to the First Division and played in the 1931 FA Cup Final, in which Albion beat Birmingham 2–1. Richardson also appeared in the 1935 FA Cup Final, but this time earned only a runners-up medal as his team lost 4–2 to Sheffield Wednesday. After making 352 appearances for West Bromwich Albion, he joined Swindon Town for a £200 transfer fee in May 1937, before moving on a free transfer to Dudley Town in September 1939. He joined Vono Sports F.C. in August 1940 but spent just one season with the club prior to his retirement in June 1941. He died in August 1985, aged 77.
