Bill Nunn

William G. "Bill" Nunn III (born October 20, 1953) is an American actor best known for his roles as Radio Raheem in Spike Lee's film Do the Right Thing and Robbie Robertson in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man film trilogy.

Early life

Nunn was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of William G. Nunn, Jr., a well-known journalist and editor at the Pittsburgh Courier, as well as an NFL scout. Nunn's paternal grandfather was the first African American football player at George Westinghouse High School.

While ball boys for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bill Nunn and current Steelers President Art Rooney II stole Joe Greene’s car during training camp at St Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. "Joe Greene showed up in a beautiful green Lincoln Continental, and me and Bill Nunn, Jr. were ball boys. Somehow Bill got the keys one night and we decided to take it for a ride. We only told Joe that story about 10 years ago. We figured that enough time had passed that we could disclose our little joy ride."

Nunn was a 1970 graduate of Schenley High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Nunn graduated in 1976 from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.

Bill Nunn (politician)

William George "Bill" Nunn (born 27 February 1932) is a former Australian politician.

Nunn was born during the Great Depression in Maryborough, the son of Robert Nunn whose ancestors arrived in Maryborough on the ship David McIvor, and his mother Eileen Marie Murphy who was descended from Irish settlers. He worked as a business manager before serving as a Hervey Bay Councillor from 1987 to 1990.

In 1989, Nunn moved to state politics and was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Isis. After Isis was abolished before the 1992 election Nunn transferred to the new seat of Hervey Bay. Nunn served as a backbencher until his defeat in 1998 by One Nation candidate, David Dalgleish.

William Goldwyn "Bill" Nunn, Jr. (September 30, 1924 – May 6, 2014) was a sportswriter, newspaper editor and American football scout for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL). Due to the fame of his son, actor William G. Nunn III, he was also known as Bill Nunn, Sr.

Biography

Early life

Nunn was born and raised in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is the son of William G. Nunn, Sr., who was the managing editor of the Pittsburgh Courier. The Courier was among the most influential black publications in the nation.

The younger Nunn attended college at West Virginia State where he was a stand-out basketball player on a team which went 26–0 in his senior season. His high school and college teammate, Chuck Cooper would become the first black player drafted by the NBA. Another college teammate, Earl Lloyd, was the first black to play in an NBA game.

Nunn was recruited by the Harlem Globetrotters, but chose instead to return home to Pittsburgh to work at the Courier.
