Bill Booth

Bill Booth is an engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur in the skydiving equipment manufacturing industry. His invention of the 3-ring release safety device has enhanced skydiving safety.

Work

In 1972, Bill Booth started the Relative Workshop in a Miami garage. In the late 1970s Bill made two major contributions to the world of skydiving. First he invented and patented the Hand Deploy Pilot Chute System, which soon changed the sport forever. The second invention, and perhaps his greatest contribution to the sport, was the invention of the 3-ring release system.

The company's first harness/container system was the Wonderhog in 1974. This was followed by the Wonderhog Sprint and in 1980 by the Vector. The U.S. Skydiving Team wore the first Vectors at the 1981 World Meet. The Vector II followed six years later.

In 1983, Bill received the Parachute Equipment Industry Association Achievement Award. The Federation Aeronautic International awarded him the 1984 Gold Medal for outstanding achievement in parachute safety design.

Bill Booth (ice hockey)

William Walton "Bill" Booth ((1919-08-20)August 20, 1919 – September 25, 1986(1986-09-25)) was a Canadian ice hockey player who mainly played in Great Britain during the 1940s and 1950s, although he is best remembered as a Coach with the Durham Wasps. He is a member of the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.

Career

Although he learned to skate by he age of eight, Bill Booth did not start playing ice hockey until he was 14 years old. However, he was still good enough to gain a place with Lachute in the Montreal Senior Provincial League (MSPL) when he was 20 years old before icing with Valleyfield Braves.

In 1943 whilst serving with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps during World War II, Booth played in two exhibition games against the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. In 1944, Booth went to Europe with the Canadian Army. After the war, he stayed in Europe playing services hockey.

Booth joined the Brighton Tigers in 1946 following his demobilization from the army. Booth played with the Tigers for three seasons — winning the Autumn Cup and the league championship in 1946–47 as well as the league championship in 1947–48. In 158 games played for the Tigers, Booth's statistics are: 26 goals, 41 assists, 67 points and 250 penalty minutes.

Bill Booth (footballer)

William Samuel "Bill" Booth (7 July 1920 – 18 February 1990) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Brighton & Hove Albion and Port Vale.

Playing career

Booth played for his local side Hove Penguins and Brighton & Hove Albion, before joining First Division club Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was unable to break into their first team at Molineux and moved to Port Vale in the Third Division South in February 1939.

After ten consecutive games for the "Valiants" in 1938–39, he was given a free transfer to league rivals Cardiff City. He later guested for Birmingham City and Leeds United during the war, before moving permanently back to Brighton & Hove Albion after the war.Don Welsh's "Seagulls" finished bottom of the Third Division South in 1947–48 and had to apply for re-election, before rising to sixth place in 1948–49. He then moved into non-league football with newly founded Southern League club Hastings United.
