Bigfoot, Texas

Bigfoot is a census-designated place (CDP) in Frio County, Texas, United States. The population was 304 at the 2000 census.

History

The first settlement at Bigfoot was made in the 1860s, but the community was called Connally's Store until the post office was established in 1883. The present name is in honor of Texas Ranger William A. A. "Bigfoot" Wallace, a former resident of the town.

Geography

Bigfoot is located at 29°3′19″N 98°50′49″W / 29.05528°N 98.84694°W / 29.05528; -98.84694 (29.055333, -98.847011).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 23.9 square miles (62 km²), of which, 23.9 square miles (62 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km²) of it (0.13%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 304 people, 110 households, and 91 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 12.7 people per square mile (4.9/km²). There were 127 housing units at an average density of 5.3/sq mi (2.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 81.58% White, 16.12% from other races, and 2.30% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 44.74% of the population.

Bigfoot (TV series)

Bigfoot is an American animated series television pilot created by Seth Rogen, Matt McKenna, and Evan Goldberg that is in development for the FX cable network. It would be based on the autobiographical bigfoot-themed books from the illustrator Graham Roumieu. Rogan, McKenna, and Goldberg would also be serving as executive producers of the show. The series will follow the protagonist Bigfoot.

Texas /ˈtɛksəs/ (Spanish: Texas or Tejas [ˈtexas]) is a state in the United States of America. It is the second most populous and second largest state by area in the US. The Texas (locomotive)

Western & Atlantic Railroad #49 "Texas" is a 4-4-0 "American" type steam locomotive built in 1856 for the Western & Atlantic Railroad by Danforth, Cooke & Co.. The Texas is widely known for being involved in the Great Locomotive Chase during the American Civil War as the engine that successfully pursued the General locomotive after it was stolen by Union saboteurs in an attempt to ruin the Confederate rail system. The locomotive is currently preserved at the Atlanta Cyclorama building within Grant Park in Atlanta, Georgia, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It will be restored and relocated to the Atlanta History Center in 2016.

Antebellum

The Texas was built in October 1856 for the Western & Atlantic Railroad by locomotive manufacturer Danforth, Cooke and Company in Paterson, New Jersey. It was subsequently shipped from Paterson to the Port of Savannah, traveled the Georgia Rail Road & Banking Company and Macon & Western Railroad, before finally being delivered to the W&A headquarters in Atlanta that same year.
