Big Deal (song)

"Big Deal" is a song written by Jeffrey Steele and Al Anderson, and recorded by American country music artist LeAnn Rimes. It was released on September 28, 1999 as the first single from her album LeAnn Rimes. The song charted at number 6 on the US country charts and number 23 on the US Hot 100 chart. The B-side track, "Leaving's Not Leaving," was released on the soundtrack for the film, Anywhere But Here on November 2, 1999.

    Big Deal was a British television comedy/drama series produced by the BBC between 1984 and 1986. The series was created and written by Geoff McQueen who created several other major television series including Give Us a Break, Stay Lucky, and The Bill.

    Starring Ray Brooks, Sharon Duce and Lisa Geoghan, the series concentrated on the ups and downs of small time London gambler Robbie Box (played by Brooks) and the effect that his poker addiction has on his long suffering girlfriend Jan Oliver (Duce) and her daughter Debbie (Geoghan).

    The theme music was by Bucks Fizz member Bobby G.

    Big Deal (series one) was released on DVD on 24 July 2006.

    Big Deal is a musical with a book by Bob Fosse using songs from various composers such as Ray Henderson, Eubie Blake, and Jerome Kern. It was based on the film "Big Deal on Madonna Street" by Mario Monicelli. The musical received five Tony Award nominations, with Fosse winning for Choreography.

    Production and background

    Fosse said that by using existing songs: "I can pick the perfect songs that will say the right things, and they're known. We'll have the greatest score in the world because they're all hit songs." Fosse said of the main character, Charlie: "That's my part! A swaggering bumbler who thinks he's a ladies' man, and he's not."

    Big Deal opened on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre on April 10, 1986 and closed on June 8, 1986 after 69 performances and six previews. Directed and choreographed by Fosse, with Christopher Chadman as assistant choreographer, the musical featured Cleavant Derricks as Charley, Loretta Devine as Lilly, Wayne Cilento, Cady Huffman, Valarie Pettiford, and Stephanie Pope.
