Bhor Ghat

Bhor Ghat or Bor Ghat, Bhore Ghaut, is a mountain passage located between Karjat and Khandala in Maharashtra, India along the railway line and between Khopoli and Khandala for road Old Mumbai Pune Road and the Mumbai Pune Expressway. Situated on the crest of the Western Ghat mountain ranges, Bhor Ghat is noted for its scenic and dense woods.

Rail

The Bhor railway ghat cuts a distance of 21 km between Khandala and Palasdari. There are 28 tunnels across the railway ghat. This ghat comes under the proposed Golden Quadrilateral Freight Corridors.

There used to be a reversing station on this ghat which trains of Great Indian Peninsula Railway (GIPR) used earlier. This was shutdown due to new tunnels on the ghat. The reversing station was located between Monkey Hill and Khandala.

Road

The Bhor road ghat cuts the Sahyadri range to join Khandala to Khopoli and handles traffic between Mumbai to Pune on the Old Mumbai Pune Road and on the Mumbai Pune Expressway (which is a part of Golden Quadrilateral of India). This ghat stretches almost 18 km between Khandala to Khopoli. There are 4 tunnels on the ghat on the Express Way. There is a point where the Mumbai - Pune Express way reach where there used to be old Great Indian Peninsula Railway (GIPR) reversing station.

Bhor

Bhor ( pronunciation ) is a city and a municipal council in Pune district in the state of Maharashtra, India.

Geography

Bhor is located at 18°10′0″N 73°51′0″E / 18.16667°N 73.85000°E / 18.16667; 73.85000. It has an average elevation of 588 metres (1929 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Bhor had a population of 17,882. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Bhor has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 83% and female literacy of 73%. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Educational institutions

Bhor is home to a large number of educational institutes such as, primary schools, high schools as well as colleges.In the town are two schools, the Raja Raghunathrao Vidhyalaya and the Shivaji Vidyalaya, and a college, A.T. College Bhor. Raja Raghunathrao Vidyalay in Bhor is 110 years old. An increasing number of educational institutes providing technological education are being founded near the town. Such as -

Bhor (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is one of the 288 Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) constituencies of Maharashtra state, western India. This constituency is located in Pune district.

Geographical scope

The constituency comprises Mulshi taluka, Velhe taluka, Bhor taluka and ward nos. 157, 159 and 160 of Pune Municipal Corporation.
